Nike EYBL Boo Williams Evaluation: AJ Harris

It may be easy to overlook a 5-foot-8 guard who is playing on the biggest stage of travel basketball. AJ Harris of Dayton, Ohio, ignores this small detail and is making a big impact for King James Shooting Stars. To pin-point what the lefty brings to the floor begins with his steady leadership as a floor general. He embodies the point guard position with a number of intangibles and competitive spirit. However, it is his tangible qualities that make him a star. Expectedly he uses his compact frame to be fast end to end while also being able to slither in and out of traffic to score at the rim. His offensive prowess is exponentially great as he is dead-eyed from behind the arc, which makes him exceptionally hard to guard. On top of all of this, Harris is an impactful defender given his quick hands and feet.

In an early morning match-up with Malik Newman of Jackson, Miss. and the Jackson Tigers, Harris led the King James team back from a double digit deficit late in the second half. He bullied his way into creating three consecutive turnovers and flipping the scoreboard in favor of the Ohio natives. Although Newman would ultimately have the final say in this game, Harris exerted himself as the second best player on the floor in the match-up. You will be able to follow Harris for years to come as he gave his verbal commitment to stay in the Buckeye State and play for Thad Matta at Ohio State University.
