#OTRHoopsReport: What We Learned – Gray & Willis – Jan. 16, 2014

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Two class of 2014 prospects in Justin Gray and Marquel Willis used the City of Palms Classic to showcase why they had the choice to early sign to Division One schools. Both have bounce around the rim and serious upside at the next level on the perimeter.

Justin Gray (Tampa, Fla.) – Berkeley Prep – 2014

A Texas Tech signee, Gray was the only Division One graded perimeter prospect on the floor in the game here and played like it. The 6-4 shooting guard is strong with a build like classmate Cameron Gregory (VA-14/Loyola signee) but has a true wing skill set. Gray didn’t showcase a consistent long-range outside jump shot but found his way to the rim multiple times. He did knock down several right-handed free throws. His mechanics are crisp and clean on the release meaning that he should be able to serve as a confident outside shooter at the next level.

Marquel Willis (Orlando, Fla.) – Oak Ridge – 2014

At 6-foot-5, Willis is a very versatile threat at the forward position. He is a good athlete on the wing who can make plays with his athleticism and activity. The Morehead State signee likes to attack the rim but is more a jack of all trades than anything. His lift allows him to finish cutbacks and plays in transition with relative ease. We watched him play during the club season at Suwanee Sports Academy with Each 1, Teach 1 and were immediately draw to his athletic ability.
