OTR Hoops: Atlanta Classic 17U Standouts – March 31, 2025

SUWANEE, Ga.— The first couple of travel ball weekends are in the rearview. While some teams are still ironing things out, there’s generally more of a rhythm to the madness now. On The Radar took over the historic Suwanee Sports Academy for the Atlanta Classic which pitted some of Georgia’s best programs against each other. Of all the talent in the gym, these are five of the most outstanding 17U players from the games I was able to take in.

Zyree Brown, Sewer South: Brown is emerging as one of the very best on the OTR Circuit. He plays with so much electricity on offense. A blur with the ball, Brown gets to where needs to go with relative ease, and he has continued to show that he’s one of the best microwave shot makers in Georgia’s 2026 class. Normally, a 29-point game would be one of the major talking points of the weekend, but we’ve seen Brown do that multiple times already this spring. Add this past weekend to his rapidly growing resume.

Chase Lumpkin, AOT, 2027: Playing up an age group for the weekend, 2027 guard Chase Lumpkin had one of the loudest weekends of anyone. Lumpkin has built a reputation as a bucket getter, and he did plenty of that. He can fill it up from all over the floor. When his shot wasn’t going down, he used a mix of burst and craft to score in the paint. When he got going from three, there wasn’t much anyone could do to stop him. Where Lumpkin’s game looked improved was in his aptitude as a distributor. He saw the floor well and made outstanding passing reads. Look for Lumpkin to keep gaining attention throughout the spring.

Jarvis Hayes, Atlanta XPress, 2027: Hayes Jr. was another younger star playing up, and he flashed the moments that make him one of Georgia’s more noteworthy prospects. To keep it simple, he just moves differently on the court. He makes the game look effortless at times. Hayes Jr. glides across the court and has springy pop to his bounce. His nose for the ball is impressive. It feels like he comes out of nowhere for 50/50 balls, rebounds, blocks, and steals. Hayes Jr. is an above-the-rim highlight waiting to happen, and that added to the must-see buzz around him during the Atlanta Classic.

Omari Chaudhry, Jet Academy, 2027: Point guard Omari Chaudhry led Jet Academy to an undefeated weekend at the Atlanta Classic. He runs the show well on offense. He’s patient, deliberate with the ball and keeps to his own pace. Chaudhry has great feel and looks to put his teammates in the best opportunities to score. He can also take over a game as a scorer if he needs to. There’s so much poise and balance when he has the ball in his hands.

Jason Welborn, Georgia Canes: Much like Zyree Brown, Jason Welborn is having a fantastic start to his spring. He’s one of the stars on this Georgia Canes team and shined at the Atlanta Classic. Welborn has developed into a consistent, reliable 3-point shooter, and he’s been known to flash his athleticism at the rim with loud dunks. His highlight performance came when he dropped 20 against the Atlanta Celtics on Sunday morning. The Canes are undefeated through two weekends, and Welborn has been one of the driving factors behind their success.
