OTR Hoops: Battle at the Beach Day 2 Standouts – May 5, 2025

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- On The Radar Hoops presents its third high school event in the Sunshine State of the season, with the latest being the Battle at the Beach. Here is who stood out on the Opening Day of the event.

By: Ross Van De Griek

2026 6-1 PG Isaiah Dunkley (Strive 4 Excellence)

Dunkley is a quick guard who can create his own scoring chances as well as make unselfish plays to get his teammates involved on the offensive end. He is also a capable scorer, where he can stop on a dime on all three levels, whether it’s off the catch or bounce. On the defensive end, Dunkley is quick and scrappy, where he gets a lot of steals, which lead to scores on the other end.

2025 6-4 CG Tristin Flowers (Filling The Lane)

Flowers can play multiple positions on the offensive end, whether it’s as a shooting guard or on the wing. On the offensive end, he didn’t need the basketball in his hands to provide much of the scoring, but he made some hard-nosed cuts to the basket where he was scoring at the front of the rim. Defensively, he made a lot of havoc in the passing lanes as well as an above-average rebounder for his size. His energy causes high volumes for his teammates which could attract a JUCO/NAIA school in his near future as he remains unsigned heading into the May live period.

2027 6-0 SG Willie Calhoun (PSB Tampa Elite 16U)

Willie “Kayden” Calhoun showed some polished footwork and effective pull-up shooting, and versatility to his scoring on the offensive end despite a tough loss to Austin Rivers SE Elite in their second game of the day. On the defensive end, he displayed a high motor where he played with a load of physicality, which frustrated opposing guards when they attacked away from him. He is primed to have a big summer ahead, as well as heading into his junior season.

2026 6-2 SG Brandon James (Strive 4 Excellence)

Brandon James had an impressive weekend where he stood out on Day 1 as well as on Day 2, where he is a three-level scorer, knocking down six 3-pointers in a win over PSB Tampa Stithen. On the defensive end, James plays with a high motor and is capable of guarding positions 1 through 4 whether it’s in the half-court or in transition defense. His activity on the glass continues to speak high volumes where he is a high-level rebounder from the guard position.

2028 6-5 CG Quinton Wilson (Tony Gaskins Elite)

Quinton Wilson has been receiving offers from D-1 schools since the summer of his eighth-grade year, where he currently holds offers from Arizona State and Michigan. Wilson is a polished athlete who can attack at the front of the rim as well as make defenders pay with his limitless range on the offensive end. On the defensive end, he showed good instincts, whether it was jumping the passing lanes, stripping ball-handlers, or blocking shots above the rim.

2027 5-11 CG Davis Bennett (Oviedo Magic)

Bennett plays with a lot of confidence on both ends of the floor by setting his teammates up to score with his precision passing and showed his elite court vision with cross-court passes to the open shooters on the offensive end. His defensive presence in the passing lanes was on full display throughout the course of the game. His aggressiveness on both ends of the floor should start to make a lot of noise heading into the summer, as well as his junior season.

2026 6-3 SG Ethan Candelario (PSB Tampa Robbie 17U)

Candelario is a true three-level scorer who can be effective off the catch and bounce. On the defensive end, he showcased his versatility where he was guarding opposing bigs and was unafraid when it came to taking a couple charges down the stretch to lift his team to a win over South Florida Dawgs.
