OTR Hoops: Early Standouts from the OTR Summer Jam – April 19, 2025

MARIETTA, Georgia – More than 200 teams competed at this weekend’s Summer Jam, all eager to iron out kinks before next weekend’s NCAA viewing period. Here’s a rundown of the top performers from Friday and Saturday morning.

Payton Waites – AE5 Florida – 2026

Waites has elevated his game since the high school season ended. He appears in peak physical condition, and his skills are sharper than ever. As a lead handler, he runs the offense with precision, shaking defenders to create space in the half court. Expect recruiting interest to surge this spring for Waites.

JJ Winston – Sewer South – 2026

Winston is undeniably one of the top athletes evaluated this spring. The 6-foot-3 wing leaps with precise timing to block shots and grab rebounds in traffic. His athleticism shines on offense, too. His explosive first step overwhelms defenders, making him a mismatch—he blows past taller opponents and soars over smaller ones. Winston has Sewer South trending upward this spring.

Tobiaz Tolbert – Team Scoot – 2026

Tolbert possesses the raw tools college coaches covet in a 6-foot-7 swing-forward. The lefty’s lengthy wingspan aids him in grabbing rebounds and scoring over defenders in the paint. His versatility as an inside-out frontline prospect will draw attention from coaches during the viewing period.

Justin Wise – Georgia Stars – 2027

Wise hasn’t slowed down since the high school season. He remains a lethal perimeter scoring threat, armed with a smooth jumper that extends well beyond the 3-point arc. Defenders must also respect his explosive first and second steps, which enable him to finish at the rim. Wise is firmly established as one of Georgia’s top 2027 guards.

Miles Clanton – AJ Bouye Elite – 2025

Clanton, an available prospect, consistently proves his talent. He makes winning plays, giving extra effort to help his team succeed. This weekend, he excelled in the two-man game on the weak side of the offense, productive as both a roll man and a face-up threat in the high post. Our staff is confident Clanton would be a valuable addition to select programs at the next level.

Nigel Broome – Athlete’s 1st – 2026

Broome is emerging as a top point guard on the OTR Circuit. He scored 31 points in his team’s opening game, showcasing his scoring instincts and solid ball-handling. In transition, he capitalizes on defenders’ missteps, while in the half court, he slashes between defenders or sidesteps for open jumpers.

Asa Montgomery – AOT Basketball – 2027

Montgomery is a hot name in recruiting circles, having earned over half a dozen offers last month after the high school season. The 6-foot-6 wing lived up to his reputation with a strong morning performance. He thrives in the dunker spot as a finisher opposite a slashing guard and is equally effective facing the basket from the wing, turning the corner for a finish. Montgomery shows no signs of slowing down.
