OTR Hoops: Five Freshman to Watch in the Spring of 2025 – February 13, 2025

The state of Georgia is the center of basketball talent annually. With one group of seniors graduating, who will replace them? We examine five freshman who look ready to fill the void.

AJ Williams – Dutchtown – 2028

Williams was just announced as a Region 3 Class AAAAA co-player of the year. This is quite an accomplishment for a freshman. He is a 6-foot-7 wing with a next level ceiling and a skill set to match. He converted his potential into production this season and helped Dutchtown to a 23-2 record and perfect in region play with a 14-0 mark.

Peter Julius – Mt. Bethel – 2028

Julius made an immediate impact for the Eagles this season. The strong and powerful pivot man rattled rims and swatted shots all year long. We took a look at him back in December when he scored 27 points in impressive fashion in a win over Fayette County. While brute strength is his signature in traffic, his footwork and agility give him added dimension of productivity. With Julius manning the middle for coach Matta, the Eagles have a reason for optimism in the post season.

Jahmar Maurice – Woodstock – 2028

Maurice was named as a 1st team All Region athlete after his efforts this season. He is averaging more than 20 points per game and helped the Wolverines earn a postseason bid. Maurice is positioned as one of the top back court playmakers in the state. He wiggles around defenders to create shots around ball screens. At the same time, he is adept at dishing dimes to cutting teammates within the flow of the offense. Look for Maurice’s name to trend this spring.

Blaze Johnson – Grayson – 2028

The Rams have a talented and experienced core that has eyes upon another title this season. However, coach Pierce has done well to bring Johnson along as the heir to the backcourt at Grayson High School. The left-handed point guard is talented and equipped with terrific instincts. Expect Johnson to gain attention this spring and summer on the circuit.
