OTR Hoops: GBCA Standouts – June 26, 2025

Here is a list of standout players from the GBCA open period at Lake Point last weekend.

By: Jaron Pierre-Mathurine

Anderson Carey 6’0 G 2026 Walker School

Carey had a solid showing in the matchup against Lambert. Started slow but he stuck with it and slowly warmed up as the contest went on. He is the senior presence on a team with a lot of young talent, but can tell the team plays to beat off his flow. Pair that with his shooting and ability to create off the dribble, he helps makes this team one to watch as the season goes on.

Malachi Edgell 6’6 F 2027 Douglas-Atlanta

Edgell put up a double-double against Woodstock and scored in a variety of ways. Mix in his size and the fact he’s still a junior in high school the time on his side will be crucial for continued development and to continuing to find his niche. Solid production in the matchup.

Camden Smith 6’0 G 2026 Woodstock

Camden was a player that I wasn’t too familiar with but showed a sound fundamental skill set especially with his shooting. Very aggressive with his moves, plays a mature game, does a good job attacking the basket and is the vocal leader this group needs.

Jahmar Maurice 5’11 G 2028 Woodstock

Jahmar has one of the deepest scoring bags in the state despite being one of the younger prospects. He can get to the rim at will, comfortable with both hands and does a good job finessing his offense to get to the free-throw line. As fundamentally sound as they come, JM’s game is bringing attention to Woodstock high and turning them into a respectable opponent. He averaged upwards of 25ppg on the weekend.

Chase Lumpkin G 6’4 2027 McEachern

Chase is another name that has made waves for McEachern due to his offensive prowess, but when his shot wasn’t falling, he made up for it on the defensive end. I caught McEachern’s matchup with Harlem and I truly believe Lumpkins’ size and defense played a pivotal role slowing down their guards (who were standouts on the weekend as well) and forcing uncomfortable shots. Good to see him give hard efforts on both ends of the court and show he’s willing to go the extra length to help his team get a ‘W.’

Zach Graves 5’11 G 2027 McEachern

Continues to get better each year. Never really forces the offense and lets the game come to him which is good to see at his age. Once the competition went on he did a good job orchestrating the offense, feeding his guys in transition, and scoring the ball. He plays with a lot of confidence, and he trusts his skillset. Another trait about ZG, whether it be June summer league, AAU, or HS ball, Zach style of play leads to winning basketball. Helped lead McEachern to a 4-0 record.

Marquise Leslie 6’7 F 2026 Alexander

Joins the list of standout wings to come through Alexander over the last few years. ML brings good size, energy, and defense to Alexander which showed us a very deep team in Session 1. He adds a quality scorer, energy plays, and some above the rim plays that can help keep the momentum or sway it for Alexander some nights. Looking for him to continue to get comfortable in his role with this group, get more aggressive and assertive with his play and keep bringing that energy to help keep Alexander as one of the teams to watch.

Emmanuel Alofe 6’8 F 2026 McEachern

Alofe brings good size and rim running for McEachern. Also, a veteran presence as one of the older players for this group, EA has no wasted movements in his play. Skied for a big-time poster jam in the matchup against Hillgrove and was a strong presence on the defensive end due to his length.

Asa Montgomery 6’8 F 2027 Hillgrove

Asa and his play helped lead Hillgrove to a 4-0 record. He has a good blend of size and skillset and a bag that shows you he is always working on his game. The eye-opening moment for me was in the matchup with Holy Innocents he hit a turnaround fade jumper from each elbow of the ft line in back-to-back possessions. He also initiated the offense on multiple possessions and showed he wasn’t afraid to bring the ball up court if needed. The work is shown with Asa and behind his play Hillgrove will continue to look for upsets heading into the season.

 Torian Greene 6’3 G 2026 Alexander

Torian brought a strong defensive presence to Alexander then as the day went on showed he can be a reliable scoring threat as well. Playing that role of 3 and D, TG was in your face, showed good lateral quickness, and was forcing turnovers all day. Offensively he was a strong ball handler, initiated the offense at times and showed the ability to score efficiently. If needed to play a role he understood the assignment and some nights if Alexander needed him to do more he showed he can provide that as well.

AJ Williams 6’2 G 2027 Harlem

Caught 2 matchups of AJ and he brought some grit and skills to the GBCA event. Offensively he was sharp in his motion, good downhill threat, shot the mid-range well and showed off some work in the post-game. Defensively he was a pest and picked up full court on multiple occasions making it tough for opposing teams who weren’t on their toes.

Ty Shine 6’2 G 2027 Harlem

Crafty guard that excels in getting downhill and to the rim. Hard to stay in front of and has good lateral movement with the ball. Finished well at the rim with both hands and showed he can absorb contact and finish through traffic. Continued work on his shooting and off ball play will be key to see his stock rise.

Zechariah Preston 6’9 F/C 2027 Wheeler

was my first time getting familiar with his game and I like what he brings to this team. Size, rim protector and a consistent paint presence with a soft touch around the rim. You can see he’s still getting comfortable with the team and his role, but I would not be surprised if he’s making waves later on in the year once the coaching staff really get to work with him. Good base to be developed and shows a lot of potential.

Brandon Nelson 6’3 G 2026 Gainesville

BN was one of the better 2-way players on the weekend. Showed the ability to score on 3 levels then turn around and guard your best player. He didn’t shy away from competition, didn’t need a lot of dribbles to get his game off and was consistent throughout the contest.

Brielen Craft 6’1 G 2028 Pace

Craft was one of the younger guys in the gym who’s built a buzz in his class already. He brings some good swagger to Pace as well, has some wiggle to his game, never rushed in his motions and does a good creating for his teammates especially his bigs. As he gets older, I expect him to continue adding to his arsenal, getting stronger in his motions and playing through contact better.

Hayden Clay 6’9 F 2026 Pace

Clay brings some quality size that Pace has not seen in the last few seasons and should help Pace continue their dominance during the season. Ran the floor well and showed the ability to put the floor on the ground and the ability to stretch the floor at the 4-spot.

Pierce Strom 6’2 G 2028 Milton

Pierce left a good impression in the win over Pace. Showed off his shooting touch and how effective he can be when feeling it from beyond the arc. He played and shot with a lot of confidence, kept defenses on their heels and showed that Milton can lean on him for that role. My worries with shooters will always be the same, and that is how can you effect the game when the shot is not falling which. With continued reps I’m sure Strom will continue to develop the skill set to not fall into that one-dimensional category.

Jayden Crawford 6’0 G 2026 Alexander

Crawford’s two-way play was on full display. He has a very crafty handle and can create his own shot off the dribble. In your face guard for four quarters and he counters Pop Dunson skill set perfect when they are on the floor together. The crucial game sealing stop in matchup with Newton.

Jordan Green 6’8 F 2026 Newton

slowly turning into a favorite to watch, JG performances and comfort is becoming more apparent on the court. One of the smoothest shooting strokes in the gym with his 6’7 frame, JG just looks the part. Not a lot of dribbles are needed for him to get his game off, good catch and shoot game, effective defensively altering shots when he locks in, all the pieces are there with him. Continuing to add to his frame and playing a tad more aggressive should bring in even more looks down the line.

Matt Allen 6’4 G 2026 Newton

Matt came with a lot of energy and adopted Newton grit and swagger quick. He was intentionally scoring the ball, did a good job getting to his spots and finished well in transition. Ball handling development and limiting his turnovers will be key, but with Newtons coaching and schedule on the year the development will show overtime.

Isaiah Dorsainvil 6’1 G 2028 Dutchtown

I’ve tabbed Dorsainvil as a standout back during his AAU days but to see his transition to HS ball go so seamlessly was impressive. Before he even touched the court, he was going by high fiving players, hyping up his teammates and making sure his guys was in the right spot pre tip. Throughout the matchups he connected from multiple spots on the court and shot with a lot of confidence. A reliable scoring threat with high upside and can be seen as focal point if he continues to put in the work.

De’Cori Fleming 6’3 G 2027 Butler

Butler has possessed some dogs over the years and Fleming seems to be next in line. in the matchup watched against stars mill he set his defender up on the wing and attacked the angle for a strong one-handed flush that showed the flashes and potential he backs. Knocked down some big 3s throughout the contest and was looking to create and initiate the offense although he was one of the younger players on the team.

Bryson Jatta 6’2 G 2028 Hillgrove

Jattas unselfishness and play was on full display yet again. Caught 2 out of his 4 matchups on the weekend and he played an instrumental role in both. If anything was put to the fore front it was his ability to attack and crash the boards especially at the guard spot. Ultra-smooth guard who can get to the basket at will continues to improve and help change the culture at Hillgrove. Picked up an offer from Kennesaw St based on his performances.

Gavin Fountain 6’6 F/G 2027 Pace

really liked the energy that Gavin played with. A tally in every category type of guy, Fountain was doing a little bit of everything for Pace. He has good size, understands how to play a role early and will find himself amongst the top performers on a nightly basis with this group.

Kevin White 5’10 G 2026 Gainesville

Kevin was easily one of the players that I believe saw his stock rise and put the state on watch. He’s the leader of a strong starting 5 unit and at the guard spot he makes sure his guys are in line and is a true leader for this group. Offensively, nobody could stay in front of him one on one, created well of the dribble and did a good job getting his post man some touches. He handled pressure well at the guard spot breaking down the press and splitting every double team. He matches the intensity defensively and with his already low base that makes him more of a pest on that end.

Jaxson Dragg 6’0 G 2027 Newnan

Confident scoring guard who provided some good buckets in the matchups watched. Doesn’t let his size get in the way of his play and can break down your defense with ease if not prepared. Solid lefty guard with a lot of pieces around him to have a strong year.

Bobby Buggs 6’1 G 2026 Dutchtown

Liked the wiggle and bounce BB plays with. He uses it to his advantages to break down defense and get to his spots for a midrange or 3. A tight handle and confident dribble for the most part he will have to understand certain moves will work at this level but the further he goes the simpler he needs to keep the game. Solid change of pace guard for this group.

Maddox Melancon 6’6 F 2026 Dutchtown

MM was another sturdy body for Dutchtown and did a good job of keeping the game simple. With his thick frame, he blew by smaller defenders and scored with ease in transition or can use his body to shield bigger defenders and get to the line. Showed the ability to shoot the midrange and had good moments defensively.
