OTR Hoops: Next Wave Middle School Camp 2031 Standouts – October 30, 2024

LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia, – More than 100 middle school prospects from across the state of Georgia and a handful from beyond the Peach State attended the OTR New Wave camp last weekend. With some of the area’s best trainers and prestigious media outlets on hand, the players were introduced to an elite platform of instruction, competition, and exposure. Here is a look at the camp’s top 2031 prospects.

By: Jonathan Hemingway

202 – Derrick Tatum Jr. – 2031

Tatum Jr. wowed evaluators and fans that showed up to the New Wave camp. He is a creative finisher able to use english to put the ball in the bucket off the backboard. He has an array of moves that involve change of pace and hesitation dribbles to keep the defenders off balance. He excels in the open court and in 1/1 situations.

248 – Azir Hatchett – 2031

Hatchett showed the skills and instincts that point to a bright future. He runs the floor with purpose and sticks his nose into traffic to make plays. He presents more than just size as he proved he can step to the perimeter and stick the open jumper and handle in 1/1 situations.

110 – Loren Hall Jr. 2031

Hall Jr. is a point guard who can shoot the cover off the ball. He has a quick trigger whether he is releasing off the catch or off the dribble. He has the lead guard mentality of pushing the ball in transition and going into attack mode. Defenders need to be on notice when he has the ball in his hands, because he is a threat to fire it off the dribble or deliver to cutting teammates.

173 – Guy Hill – 2031

Hill is a promising young prospect with size, athleticism, and versatility. We took note of his ability to run the floor and fill the lane in transition. He also showed off his ball skill and shooting prowess in the skill stations. It is a bit too early to tell what his specialty on the court will be, but he has a good foundation to build upon.

171 – Charles Willis – 2031

We noted Willis for his defensive skills at the camp. He showed his on ball, lockdown, abilities during game play. It is enjoyable to see kids get into a stance, move their feet laterally and take pride in the defensive side of the ball. That mentality will take Willis far in this game if he continues to hold it.

134 JeBrelle Snow – 2031

Snow showed promise as a slasher at the camp. He proved he can turn the corner versus his defender in just a dribble or two. Once his head and shoulders are in the lane, he is apt to make a positive play. Look for Snow to continue his upward trajectory and he continues his slashing downhill.

192 – Davis Gallemore – 2031

Gallemore is equipped with an ideal frame and athleticism as a young player. He has long arms and a body that will continue to fill out as he matures. We liked how he was able to attack the lane with either hand and have body control once he turned the corner.

150 – Cedric James Jr. – 2031

James Jr. was one of the top scorers in his age group at the camp. He is quick with the ball in his hands and has the proper footwork to make his game efficient. We took notice of his step through footwork to work around lunging defenders.

179 – Nazir Winfrey – 2031

Winfrey is a smaller guard, but he is big on quickness and ball handling. We liked how he was able to claim the edge against on ball defenders and accelerate past their reaching hands. Look for Winfrey to develop into a well-rounded play maker in the future.

203 – Braylen Tate – 2031

Tate earned the designation as the top prospect in his age group at this camp. He is a talented big man with a versatile skill set. He has the frame and size that will allow coaches to use him as a center. But he can handle the ball like a wing. He dominated all parts of the game during the camp as a scorer, play maker, and rebounder. There should be plenty more accolades in front of Tate if he sticks with his development program.
