OTR Hoops: Power 24 Saturday Kell HS Standouts – July 27, 2024

Marietta, GA- The On The Radar Power 24 was held this past weekend for the final NCAA Live Period of 2024. Coaches from 200-plus colleges and universities were on hand in the many gyms for the weekend. Here is a look at a few of the notable standouts from Saturday’s action at Kell High School.

By: Joel Hillsman

2027 Romel Koon Jr– AOT- Koon has the makings of being another special player to come through the AOT pipeline. The 6’2 lefty is a quick off the dribble, gets to his spots and puts pressure on the defense once he gets below the foul line. Koon had several finishes at the rim through contact as well as multiple assists off of his penetration. Koon shoots it with confidence from the perimeter, is efficient, has outstanding vision in the open floor and in the half court and used a feathery floater multiple times over bigger defenders to get buckets and avoid player control fouls.

2025 Caleb (Peale) Samples– Kountry Wayne Elite- The 6’5 Samples slowly continues to show improvement in his overall game. The athletic wing is able to score from the perimeter with a more consistent jumper, slashes from the wings and runs like a gazelle in the open floor.  Samples, who holds an offer from Voorhees, drew the attention of coaches on hand that see the high ceiling. He finished with 27 points in a win over OTP National 17U and was limited in a loss to Miami Dor5 Elite after cutting his finger after finishing a fast break with a thunderous dunk. Samples has good length and as he continues to develop and shore up his defensive game he should see and uptick in his recruitment.

2026 William Myles – Cam Sports South- Myles is a 5’9 quick and tough guard. He is a fearless competitor that does not shy away from the big moments. Myles nailed the game-winning field goal on Friday night as Cam South Sports defeated the Atlanta Timberwolves (green). On Saturday he averaged 14 points and 4 assists in two games with is quickness to the rack, his aggressive defense and his heady IQ in leading the offense. His play gained interest from coaches on site and his ceiling is very high so watch for an uptick in his recruitment as he continues to develop into the high school season.

2025 Brennan Ringhofer– SWFL Hoops 2025 Red- Ringhofer is a 6’0 lefty guard with a quick first step, drives to get to basket under control, uses his body as a shield and finishes with either hand. Ringhofer drew the interest of coaches in attendance seeing him for the first time and others that were taking another look at him by showing an overall blend to his game finishing with 11 points, 5 assists and 3 steals while playing with poise and leadership down the stretch of a tough win.

2025 Fritz Odige– SWFL Hoops 2025 Red- AT 6’7 Odige has good size and knows how to use it with agility and strength. He is a bully around the boards, contests and alters shots on the defensive end without fouling. He has naturally good instincts, active, athletic, and will put defenders in the rim with his big time dunks (especially against the Tennessee Panthers). He posted a 10-point-10-rebound double-double to go with 3 blocks in the one full game we charted. There were several coaches that liked what they saw and will be keeping closer tabs on him so look for interest and recruitment to grow up to and through the high school season.

2027 Cam Claiborne- Team Loaded VA 3SSB- Claiborne is a small (5’9) but strong guard that drives and absorbs contact at the rim. He is a pest on defense and uses defense to create offense and is sound with his decision making in the open floor. He finishes with either hand around the rim and can shoot it off the bounce. His defense stood out in a come-from-behind win over AOT where he finished with 16 points with four three-pointers made. It was his seven points, two steals and two assists in the final 4 minutes of the AOT game that sealed the win.

2027 Brady Burnette- Team Loaded VA 3SSB- Burnette is a deadly catch and shoot player. In the win over AOT he finished with 12 points on four three-pointers in which three off those four were catch and shoot threes coming off multiple actions while moving without the ball. Burnette had a number of assists and impact plays including multiple offense rebounds in one possession to get points for team in the midst of a late rally. He communicates on defense and in the half court and has a high ceiling as he will continue to develop.

2025 Davis Joyner- STARS Basketball Club Premier 17U (TN)- Joyner will make you pay from the perimeter if you cheat off of him. Joyner averaged 17.5ppg with eight three-pointers in 2 games on Saturday. His is a 6’3 knockdown spot up shooter, is aggressive on defense above and below the arc and uses his length to his advantage defensively.  He is a hard-nosed player on the boards and creates a lot of 50/50 ball situations because of his activity.

2026 Kendall Holliday– Chicago Grinders 2026 (IL)- Holliday is an aggressive player and plays mad. He finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds in a tough loss however showed glimpses of a game that will continue to evolve. He is an excellent rebounder, fights for every loose ball, finished with contact at the rim with either hand, over both shoulders and can knock down the mid-range shot with a feathery left-handed touch. Defensively he fights through screens, boxes out well, contests and alters shots and moves his feet well when guarding above the arc.
