A selection of standout players from the OTR X Hoopseen Southeast Takeover.
By: Jaron Pierre-Mathurine
Majok Mayuen Kau 6’8 F 2029 Ga Stars
was a good introduction to the scene with his emphatic jams and high energy play. Ran the floor well and due to his size alone was the difference maker for them this weekend leading to the championship game. You can tell he’s still getting his feet wet with the game and could use some work developing a true post skill set, but the foundation is there.
Anthony Moreno 5’9 G 2029 Ga Stars
has made our standout list as being a crafty ball handler with a deep scoring bag, but this weekend his defense was on notice which only added to his profile as a player. Did a good job sliding his feet and beating defenders to the spot. He did a good job against all sizes as he’s usually one of the smaller guys on the court but being that he has a niche already on both sides of the ball ,the more he locks in the more dominant his performances will look.
Jackson Baldwin 5’11 G 2029 Tier II Elite
ultra smooth combo guard who blends scoring and pace very well for Tier II Elite. He faced multiple styles of competition over the weekend and handled himself well and put up eyebrow raising performances in each game. Seeing how he continues to fare against taller/longer defenders and how he’s able to create against size will be key as he continues to develop.
Tim Alexander Jr. 6’3 G/F 2029 AOT
Tim brought good size to the group, kept the ball high, and had a high motor He was able to disrupt shots in the post and step out and guard the wing, showing his versatility as a player. Relegated to the post due to size and age, once he develops a comfortable midrange to go along with his post presence, that alone can take this group and his game to another level.
Peyton Easley 2029 5’11 G AOT
PE was another guard who could fill it up. Having a bit of an advantage being a college coaches son, he sees the game quick, knows when to attack as a guard and has deep scoring range. Only an 8th grader was taking NBA range 3s and then some. Crafty finisher at the rim who is not afraid of contact and does a good job getting to the ft line.
Jaylence Byrd 2029 5’11 G Alabama Fusion
was a crafty guard that repped the state of Alabama well and his work came as a 6th man which was even more impressive. Whenever the team needed a rest, he was a viable option to come off the bench and keep the group playing with the same intensity. Very fundamental in his motions, makes good reads, high level shooter and knows how to create well.
Henok Yilma 2030 5’8 G Tier II Elite
Wired scorer who filled it up for 30pts in the opening game Saturday. Knows his spots well on the court as he had blob sets made for him already connecting on multiple 3s off the set. He did a good job getting behind defenses in transition and getting to the rim for easy lays. He made a few plays defensively showing he wasn’t afraid to step up and do the dirty work along with being the team’s scorer.
