OTR Hoops: Standout Guards from Elite 32 – July 17, 2024

Year after year, the Elite 32 has been a marquee event on the recruiting trail and this one didn’t disappoint. Top-tier teams from across the country came to play and the college coaches followed. More than 125 different college programs came through to recruit and we saw several players take advantage of the opportunity. These are some of the best guards we saw over the weekend.

6’1 PG Semaj Stampley – 2026 – SW Illinois Jets (Owens)

Semaj Stampley made a statement this weekend in Atlanta and put his name on a number of D1 recruiting boards. Stampley is an above-the-rim point guard that’s not afraid of contact at the rim as we saw on multiple highlight dunks. There’s a smooth pace and rhythm to his game, able to hit actions on time and execute half-court sets or create instant offense with his handle. He also showcased some tough shotmaking ability off the bounce. Stampley picked up an offer from Lindenwood at the event, bringing his offer list to 5.

6’2 CG Spencer Clayton – 2025 – SWFL Hoops Red

Spencer Clayton embraced the big stage this weekend and performed well in front of numerous college coaches. Clayton played multiple roles effectively for SWFL Hoops and helped carry the scoring load in some competitive games. The three-ball is Clayton’s ultimate calling card but he proved capable of running the point when needed and making plays in the pick and roll. Clayton currently holds an offer from Southeastern and they were in to see him over the weekend.

6’4 SG KJ Williams – 2025 – Texas Hardwork Poodie

Texas Hardwork (Poodie) ran through the competition this weekend in Atlanta and KJ Williams drew plenty of attention in the process. Williams certainly passes the eye test, every bit of 6’4 with a college-ready frame. His scoring package is polished, dangerous from beyond the arc but also a strong attacker off the dribble. Defensively, he can guard multiple positions on the perimeter and forces a lot of turnovers with his quick hands and anticipation. Williams currently holds one D2 offer from UT-Dallas and should be hearing from several more schools after this weekend.

6’1 CG Gabe Davenport – 2025 – Tennessee Marathon

Tennessee Marathon notched wins in 5 of their games this weekend and Gabe Davenport was the focal point of their attack. Davenport is a hard-nosed scoring guard that shoots the three with deep range and extreme confidence. What sets Davenport apart from other shooters is his competitive toughness. He’s relentless on the offensive glass, typically good for a couple points off of putbacks each game, and constantly on the floor for loose balls. It’s only a matter of time before Davenport’s recruitment starts to pick up.

6’0 SG Trey Smith – 2027 – Georgia Legacy

You could call it a breakout weekend for Trey Smith as he made a name for himself while playing up against high level competition in the 17u division. Smith’s crafty passing ability was on full display, several Nash-like assists off penetration. He showcased the three-point shooting as well, knocking down 6 triples in the game against All Ohio EYBL. Defensively, Smith is an excellent on-ball defender that’s constantly looking to get his hands on the ball. He’s certainly one to keep an eye on in Georgia’s 2027 class.
