The Florida Opening: Notable Sunday Standouts

By: Drew Johnson (@RealNews102)

Ethan Sabec | F | 2026 | Calvary Christian | @EthanSabec2026

Sabec stole the weekend with his Sunday afternoon performance, knocking down an insane 11 three-pointers in a single game. No signs of jet lag from Saturday—he showed up ready to dominate and has cemented himself as one of the top scorers in the 2026 class. At 6-8, his blend of size, shooting and playmaking makes him a nightmare matchup. While he’s still working on consistency, his development is starting to show, and his confidence as a scorer continues to grow. Sabec has all the tools to be a high-level prospect as he polishes his all-around game.

Isaiah Pina | G | 2026 | South Lake | @IsaiahPina22443

Pina is a big-bodied guard who thrives on physicality and athleticism. He was one of the strongest players on the floor this weekend, using his frame to absorb contact and finish at the rim. His ability to move well around the basket, combined with his natural strength, made him tough to stop in transition. Pina didn’t shy away from attacking defenders and played with a relentless motor. His physicality and aggressiveness stood out, making him one of the more imposing guards at the event.

Markenzy Sainvil | G | 2026 | TLAPrep | @yxng_kenzy

Sainvil is a poised and patient guard who knows how to pick his spots. He has a tight handle, can get to the bucket at will, and has sleeper athleticism that allows him to finish above the rim when needed. What stood out most was his willingness to get his teammates involved, showing good vision and decision-making. Even when pressured, he kept his composure and made the right play. Sainvil is a solid all-around player who proved he can both facilitate and score at a high level.

Sam Powell | G | 2026 | Golden Gate | @SamPowell239

Powell is a bigger guard with a smooth shooting stroke and a strong frame. He has long arms, which help him contest shots, rebound, and disrupt passing lanes on defense. His ability to knock down open looks and make plays off the dribble made him a consistent scoring threat. Powell didn’t just settle for jumpers—he mixed it up by attacking the basket and using his size to finish through contact. He was one of the more complete guards on display Sunday.

Damien Ross | G | 2026 | Jesuit | @_damienross_

Ross put on a show with a 27-point, 5-assist performance, proving why he’s a name to watch in the 2026 class. His confidence and ability to score at all three levels stood out, and he played with an edge on both ends. A physical defender and vocal leader, Ross brings intensity every time he steps on the floor. With his skill set and motor, he’s primed for a breakout travel ball season.

Connor Corris | F | 2026 | Bishop Moore | @ConnorCorris7

Corris was one of the more athletic forwards in the gym, using his 6-8 frame to get to the rim with ease. He’s explosive, quick off his feet, and plays with a motor that makes him a constant threat in transition. Whether finishing lobs, running the floor, or using his length to alter shots, he made an impact all over the court. His versatility stood out, showing flashes of being able to handle the ball and create for himself. As he continues refining his skill set, he has the physical tools to be a high-level prospect.

Brandon James | G | 2026

James plays with an aggressive mindset, constantly looking to attack downhill and put pressure on defenses. He’s a versatile and smooth guard with a confident handle, allowing him to create shots for himself and others. His ability to finish through contact was impressive, showing good touch around the rim. He also displayed a reliable jumper, making him a threat both inside and out. James had a strong showing and proved he can score in a variety of ways.

Sean Standifer | G | 2026 | @SeanStandifer1

Standifer is another big guard who knows how to use his size to his advantage. He can push the pace, get to the rim, and create mismatches against smaller defenders. While he’s still working on staying under control at times, his potential is clear. When he plays within himself, he’s a force offensively and showed flashes of being a tough two-way player. With more refinement, Standifer could take a big jump in his game.

Hendrix Loughridge | F | 2026 | Seven Rivers Christian | @hendawg_21

Loughridge has one of the longest frames in this group, standing around 6-7 with an impressive wingspan. He used his length to his advantage, crashing the boards and altering shots on defense. His ability to finish around the rim was noticeable, throwing down dunks and cleaning up missed opportunities. Loughridge plays fluidly for his size and moves well, showing some upside as a rim protector. If he continues developing his offensive game, he could be a real problem in the paint.

Tucker Fox | G | 2026 | VCA | @tuckerfox15

Fox has a quick trigger and shoots the ball with confidence from anywhere on the floor. If he gets a clean look, it’s going up—and more often than not, it’s going in. His ability to make tough shots under pressure set him apart, proving he can score at a high level. Defensively, he brought energy and stayed aggressive, making sure his presence was felt on both ends. Fox continues to elevate his game and was one of the top shot-makers on Sunday.

Sam Quebedeaux | G | 2026 | Pensacola Catholic

Quebedeaux was one of the better pure shooters at the event, consistently knocking down threes with ease. Coming all the way from Pensacola, he made his presence known with his ability to heat up in a hurry. He also showed a solid work rate on defense, proving he’s more than just a shooter. His ability to move without the ball and create space for his shot makes him a player to watch. One of my sleeper guards with real potential.

Kid Daniels | G | 2027 | Tavares | @yoneighbhoodkid

Daniels was the engine for his team’s offense, keeping things flowing and making plays all game long. He has a great ability to create off the dribble, whether for himself or his teammates. His quick first step and ability to get to the rim made him a tough cover. On Sunday, he handled the rock a lot and looked comfortable leading his squad. For a 2027 prospect, Daniels played with confidence beyond his years.

Toby Lane | G | 2026 | Santa Fe Catholic | @TobyLane2026

Lane is really starting to come into his own, making a name for himself with his production on both ends. He’s a pest on defense, constantly making life tough for opposing guards. Recently ranked for his efforts, Lane has proven he belongs among the top names in his class. He’s vocal, high-IQ, and plays with a chip on his shoulder. As a solid point guard prospect, his game continues to trend upward.

Nelson Marshall | G | 2025 | Sunlake | @nelsonmmarshall

Marshall has a strong frame and uses it well to create space and get his shot off. He has a smooth jumper and proved he can knock down threes at a high rate. His toughness stood out, as he didn’t shy away from contact and played through physical defense. Athletic and well-built, he can be a difficult matchup for smaller guards. Marshall showed why he’s a name to watch in the 2025 class.

Payton Waites | G | 2025 | Woodward Academy | @waites_payton

Waites is a shifty three-level scorer who can get buckets in a variety of ways. He has good size on the perimeter, allowing him to play multiple positions and create mismatches. Whether shooting off the bounce, catching and shooting, or getting downhill, he found ways to score efficiently. His ability to make open shots and finish at the rim makes him a real scoring threat. Waites put together a strong showing and proved he’s a name to keep an eye on.
