OTR Hoops: Sunday Standouts from the Memorial Day Classic – May 29, 2025

Orlando, Florida – The Memorial Day Classic finished on Monday with teams getting one final chance to compete before players disperse to their individual high schools for summer basketball. Here is a selection of underclassmen who caught our attention during the final day of the tournament.

Josiah Gillard – Florida Rebels – 2028
Gillard is already generating buzz in Florida as a top up-and-coming point guard. He is more than a steady hand in the backcourt. He has a touch of flair in his game, signaling he can make the right play with style. Gillard does not overdo the stylish handling, however. He prioritizes making the right play at the right time, which makes us believe he’ll be a winning player throughout high school and beyond.
Jah’mir Wallace – Florida Rebels – 2028
Wallace is a load to handle for opponents. He is strong, quick, and skilled from the wing. He can play power forward when rebounding and converting paint finishes, yet his game is polished enough to serve as a lead playmaker in the half court. He is a bit of a bowling ball when he gains momentum toward the rim. Defenders seem to bounce off him, giving him open space to finish.
Franklin Okeke – OBG Elite – 2028
Okeke was key in his team’s Sunday morning win over the Florida Rebels. We unofficially measured him at around 6-foot-8 with an even longer reach. He earns most of his points running in transition and finishing paint touches in traffic. Given his athletic profile and court instincts, we believe Okeke will develop into a versatile front-line presence.
Jakobe Rasmussen – 2 Times Outlaw – 2027
We kept noticing Rasmussen’s ball handling all weekend. As we moved from court to court, he stood out for shaking defenders left to right and making quick decisions. We noted him as an ideal lead guard who can run the offense and set up teammates in the half court. While Rasmussen may not consistently lead his team in scoring, he is likely to drive his team’s success with his steady ball handling.
Grayson Jones – Austin Rivers Southeast Elite – 2027
Jones earned our attention in Sunday morning’s opening game with electrifying playmaking. He accelerates quickly to the bucket and can elevate to finish at the rim. Jones is more than a quick, athletic scorer, however. He’s a passer with awareness, keeping his eyes up to get teammates involved.
Reid Adams – Georgia Canes – 2027
Adams is emerging as a top prospect in Georgia’s rising junior class. He has size and shooting touch, two of the most desirable attributes on the court today. While Adams can be a spot-up specialist from beyond the arc, he has a streak of diversity in his game. He works on the interior as a rebounder and paint finisher. He lists himself at 6-foot-5 on social media, but that might be modest, as he seems to have grown recently—keep tabs on this Columbus forward.
