OTR Hoops: Sweet 16 – Day 2 Morning Standouts (Sandy) – May 20, 2024

Sweet 16: Day 2 Morning Standouts
By: Kyle Sandy
2027 5-5 PG Elijah Carnes – Hoop Avenue Black – Chapel Hill
Elijah was in a zone on Saturday morning, the smallest player on the floor seeing the rim the largest. Carnes peppered the defense with pull-up jumpers from the mid-range and beyond, sinking three threes en route to posting 20 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals in a 54-24 win over Team Power. Carnes got to his spots routinely and was able to slither his way to the hoop and finish with floaters against length.
2026 6-4 W Logan Gardner – TG Pro Select – Clinton
Logan has “tear the house down” athleticism. Toss any pass in his area no matter how high and Gardner can catch it. He is a nuisance in the lob game, flying from the baseline for monster slams. Logan crashes the offensive glass extremely hard as he looks to dunk every chance he gets. His energy along with the threat to swoop in for oops makes him a scouting nightmare. Logan can also space the floor with his three-point shot. Gardner has next level athleticism and is fun to watch.
2026 6-3 G Jeramiah McMillian – Dirty South Elite – West Lauderdale
Jay made things happen on both sides of the floor in a 55-26 rout to start the morning. McMillian plays off the ball but was an effective playmaker when the ball was in his hands. His activity keeps him involved in every play. He aggressively seeks rebounds. McMillian netted a pair of threes on his way to tallying 16 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.
2026 6-5 F William Davidson – Dirty South Elite
Davidson sticks out with his size. He’s got a strong, sturdy frame and knows how to use it when scoring with his back to the basket. He likes to back down his man before turning to score over his left shoulder. Will can hit the turnaround jumper and the mid-range shot when he’s not muscling his way to putbacks or scoring on dump offs. Will recorded 16 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block against Team Dickerson.
2026 6-7 F Tylan Chambers – Panhandle Prospects – Booker T. Washington (Pictured)
Tylan Chambers put the game on ice in the second half, scoring 13 of his 17 points to pair with his 8 rebounds, 1 steal and 2 blocks in a 46-36 win against the Elite Playmakers. Tylan is a versatile forward that scores in traffic but can also step outside and show finesse off the bounce. Chambers has good feet, able to eurostep past defenders. Tylan is tough on the offensive glass. He scored on three putbacks against the Playmakers. He has burgeoning range on his jump shot, showcased by a baseline turnaround jumper. Chambers has touch out to 15-feet and isn’t afraid to throw down dunks on unprepared defenders. He’s a good-looking prospect to track in Florida.
2026 6-4 F Gavin Smith – Elite Playmakers CJ – Douglas County
I loved the rebounding of Gavin Smith. He’s a rugged interior presence that plays with vigor. The Douglas County Tiger posted 6 points, 18 rebounds and 1 block against the Panhandle Prospects. The southpaw is more of a hustle and effort guy right now, scoring all of his points on putbacks. He showed a willingness to handle the ball on the perimeter and could eventually see his offensive game blossom to the mid-range.
