OTR Hoops: Sweet 16 Weekend Standouts (Hinds) – May 21, 2024

Atlanta , Georgia, – The Live Period is here, and, On the Radar Hoops, scouts are flooding the scene across the greater Atlanta area. Teams from across the Southeast region are on full display putting in the hard work. Here is who stood out at the Sweet Sixteen.
By: David Hinds
Devin Melton – Team Person – 2029
Devin Melton is a skilled and physically gifted big playing up in age. The talented young prospect is a versatile weapon on both ends of the floor. On the offensive end he is comfortable putting the ball on the floor and using his size/length to get tough baskets around the rim. Defensively, Melton does a great job exploiting his long wingspan and making it tough on other players to get shots off near him. Melton has one of the higher ceilings that I have came across in these younger divisions.
Bryce Johnson – Kentucky Ambition – 2026
Bryce Johnson is a bouncy wing prospect for a really good Kentucky Ambition squad. Johnson is at his best off the dribble where he has a couple go-to dribble moves that allow him to get deep penetration. Johnson is deadly in the paint where he is able to simply rise above help defenders and finish effortlessly around the rim. His athleticism naturally translates to the defensive end where he does a good job protecting the basket and playing passing lanes.
Carson Ginn – Equal Shot – 2027
Carson Ginn has good size for the position and uses it to easily shoot his jumper over smaller defenders. I watched Ginn knock down at least 5 three pointers in a competitive battle with a feisty Puerto Rico Basketball Academy team. At times Ginn was his team’s entire offense and it was never too much of a burden for the young combo forward. Ginn is fun to watch as he seems to truly enjoy the game.
CC Smith – Rocket City Suns – 2024
CC Smith is one of the most athletic players that attended the Sweet 16. The 6’4 wing is a monster in transition where he can finish above or through the majority of defenders. He has a motor that stays on 24/7 and that translates to a ton of second chance points. His athleticism/motor combination is incredibly rare nowadays. Smith is the type of prospect that is ready to step into a college program and immediately make an impact from day one.
Samuel Koko – 904 Elite – 2027
Samuel Koko is a physically gifted young shooting guard with an impressive first step. Koko is incredibly explosive on his way to the basket and is physically imposing enough to deter many defenders from even attempting to step in his way. Koko does a good job getting penetration and is an adept finisher when he gets to the cup. This is a prospect worth tracking over the next couple years for college coaches.
