OTR Sweet 16 Session I Standouts Part 4 – April 27, 2023

MARIETTA, Georgia, – Next Play 360 was the central location of the OTR Sweet 16 Session I last weekend. A remodeled facility with new polish and a fresh aura set the tone for a solid weekend of hoops. Last weekend was the opening spring evaluation period for this calendar year. Teams from across the southeast, including teams from as far away as Texas and California, showed up to compete and earn looks with hopes of earning scholarship offers. Here is a final look at standouts from the weekend below.

Class of 2024 forward Mekhi Turner continues to impact for Wood Elite. His versatile skill set allows him to impact in several ways. He showed range on his 3-point jumper while also blocking shots in the lane. The lefty also was effective at getting downhill off the dribble to finish in traffic. Turner is a 6-foot-7 prospect who ought to gain attention this spring.

Class of 2024 wing Jermaine Freeman made waves at the event last weekend. He is a high energy wing who impacts the game on both ends of the floor. He harasses opponents with his quick hands and feet. The lefty can also connect on 3-pointers and punch a dunk with space. Look for Freeman’s game to continue to grow this spring and summer with the Georgia Stunners.

We really liked Damon Folds’ game. The 2024 point guard is fundamental but also has a little wiggle with the ball in his hands. His passing and vision separate him as a different maker. He can set the table and lead teammates to easy shots. He plays for Athletes of Influence.

Class of 2024 wing Julian Ormond caught our attention early in the weekend with OTP National. He is a good size wing that can play several perimeter positions. He uses his length to get into the passing lanes and is a defensive menace. He excelled as a scorer in transition. We are buying in stock in the Wheeler High School product’s game.

Another defensive specialist we took note of is Devontaey Woulard with Team Speights Gulfcoast. He is an available 2023 combo guard who plays the game at full tilt for all 32 minutes. We really appreciate his effort and anticipation skills. He got buckets in transition and brought great energy to his teammates.

Class of 2024 wing Christian Brown is an ideal prospect in the modern game. He is a wing with size and shooting ability with Team PSB Elite. He complements playmakers by stretching the floor and forcing help defenders into difficult decisions. What we liked about Brown the most was his passing ability. He has vision which is unique for a wing. He will share it and gives the ball energy when other lesser players take the air out of it with the dribble.

Put Derek Delgardo onto your watchlist for guards in the state of Florida. He is an athletic combo guard with a knack for scoring the ball. The G1 Sports guard impressed us with his quick first step and midrange touch. He has decent size for the position as well. The 2024 prospect is worth checking out during the evaluation periods this spring and summer.
