Atlanta, Ga.- The Peach State Classic held at Westlake High School showcased some of the top programs in the state of Georgia. Here are two points that were made from Saturday’s showcase:
1. The Feature is bright at Westlake High School
Junior guard Raquan Wilkins emerged this summer with his play on the summer circuit. His high motor and athletic ability didn’t go unnoticed as he caught the attention of several college programs around the country. He has superb athleticism, length, and he plays with reckless abandon. He excels in transition where he attacks the rim and finishes with authority. He was able to defend the paint along with sophomore post Michael Durr. This 6-foot-9 forward gives Westlake a presence around the basket as he was effect altering and blocking shots. As his offensive game continues to expand, Durr will be tracked by many of the top programs around the country. Daniel Lewis provided a spark for the Lions in the second half. This 6-foot-3 guard displays good ball handling when he slashes to the rim from the wing or along the baseline. As he adds weight and strength, his game will continue to blossom helping him to play through contact and finish at the rim.
2. On the Rise
Saturday was my first time watching Mays High School play this year. Against a talented Tucker team, junior guard Charles Arnold made play after play to help the Raiders stay in striking distance throughout the game. Arnold has that prototypical wing-type frame with long arms and his explosiveness is impressive. He was quite potent in transition where he knows how to finish at or above the rim. Tucker junior Adonis Green is a player who will draw attention this summer. The 6-foot-7 post is a presence around the basket contesting and changing shots in the lane and constantly getting a hand on balls off the rim.
