#OTRHoopsReport: Prospect Evaluation-Sept. 8, 2014
Florida State landed a commitment from OTRHoopsReport.com 4-star guard Malik Beasley
Malik Beasley-(Alpharetta, Ga), Georgia Stars-2015
Height: 6’4
Position: Shooting Guard
Committed College: Florida State
This 6-foot-4 shooting guard was one of the most consistent players that we have seen last season in the state of Georgia. Beasley led St Francis to a state title, averaging 19.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. He has great length and is a deceptively explosive athlete. Beasley has the ability to score in a variety of ways from anywhere on the floor. He has become a consistent jump-shooter from the perimeter. He also has the ball-handling abilities that enable him to put the ball on the deck and get to the basket for finishes at the rim.
Beasley was one of the hottest players in the country during the Spring and July evalaution periods going from an unranked prospect to a top 100 player in the class of 2015. Beasley choose the Seminoles over UConn, Georgia, Oregon, St. John’s, UCLA, VCU and Wake Forest. Beasley joins a class which includes Terance Mann and Dwayne Bacon.
Player Evaluations:
6/20/14 – NBPA Top 100 Camp (Charlottesville, Va.) – Brandon Clay
Event Eval Grade: 4 star plus
Jon’s eval below is on point. Beasley is at his best when the ball is thrown in the air. Tightening up his skill set and getting physically stronger will only add to his game at the next level.
6/18/14 – NBPA Top 100 Camp (Charlottesville, Va.) – Jonathan Hemingway
Event Eval Grade: 4 star plus
Beasley is a heck of an athlete and great in transition. He seems to loosen up and play his best basketball when he has space to run. This camp setting really showed where Beasley still has a lot of skill work left to develop. His release on his jumper is inconsistent at best. He showed difficulties in making left handed push passes in shell drill. But when it came game time, he certainly produced.
5/17/14 Nike EYBL Boo Williams (Hampton, Va.) – Shun Williams
Event Eval Grade: 4 star plus
Beasley shots weren’t falling so he showcased his ability to create off the dribble to get to the rim. He was effective driving the baseline and cutting to the basket where Jackson was able to get him the ball for the finish.
3/3/14 – GHSA Final 4 vs. Athens Christian (Kennesaw State University) – Jonathan Hemingway
Event Eval Grade: 4 star
Beasley has had a very strong 2nd half to the season for St. Francis and that consistency poured over into this semi-final game. He showed his ability to hit the mid-range jumper very well here tonight & even a hit a 3 vs. Will Jackson & Athens Christian. His opportunities for scoring come more often as he plays opposite of two very good scorers in Kobi Simmons & Kaiser Gates. He is an athlete that should be able to defend his position on the other end as well.
