OTR Hoops News: Jermal Jones Jr. commits to Pittsburgh

By: Ross Van De Griek

Four-star senior guard Jermal Jones Jr, out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, announced his commitment to the University of Pittsburgh. Jones becomes the first commit for Jeff Capel in the 2026 recruiting cycle.

Jones chose the Panthers over California, Clemson, Cincinnati, Mississippi State, Purdue, Washington, and several others.

Jones began receiving national recognition during his sophomore year of high school, when he attended Bell Creek Academy in Riverview, Florida, and played at the varsity level since he was in the eighth grade before transferring to a national powerhouse at the start of his junior season. He also made a lot of noise during the Grassroots season when playing for JET Academy, which is operated by former 10-year National Basketball Association (NBA) veteran Kenny Smith. Jones averaged 11.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game during the Nike EYBL circuit last season.

Jones is a multi-versatile player on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he is a three-level scorer who can make an impact whether it’s running the point guard position or his ability to play off the ball. On the defensive end, he is an above-average rebounder for his size and can make an impact with his length and athleticism by applying pressure in the passing lanes. His handle continues to improve, as well as making solid reads and finding open teammates; he could have a big senior season this year.
