OTR Hoops News: Four-star Combo Guard commits to Florida Atlantic

Felipe Quinones, A four-star combo guard out of Columbus High School in Miami, Florida, has announced he has committed to Florida Atlantic University.

The 6-foot-5 senior chose the Owls over Baylor, Michigan, Ole Miss, UCF, and several others.

The native of Puerto Rico made the transfer to the defending four-time state champion and Chipotle National Champion Columbus Explorers after playing the last two seasons at IMG Academy, where he came off the bench last season for the Ascenders. During the Grassroots circuit, Quinones played for JET Academy, which is part of the Nike EYBL circuit, where he averaged over 16 points per game.

During the FIBA U16 World Championships last summer, Quinones played for the Puerto Rican National Team, averaging 13 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game, where Puerto Rico finished in 6^th Place.

Quinones is a score-first guard who has a strong nose when it comes to attacking the basket, as well as having a strong knack for scoring on all three levels. He has a smooth handle where he doesn’t get phased when it comes to opposing defenses applying pressure on him, where his height allows him to see the floor exceptionally well. His best offensive trait is his patience, which allows him to create space and the ability to absorb contact while finishing at the rim.

Quinones is a quick and active defender with good length, which creates a ton of versatility where he can apply pressure in the passing lanes. He is an above-average rebounder for his size, as well, where he can crash the glass and utilize his strength inside the paint.
