CANTON, Georgia — Jace Dunn was not on our standout list following the Underground Hoops Exposure Camp in September. That was an oversight on my part.
Dunn is a 6-foot-4 guard at Pace Academy with a skill set that deserves more recognition. My notes from the camp were brief, but I did note his footwork and the way he used ball fakes to create opportunities to drive. What I undervalued was how those skills played alongside his size and athleticism.
A closer look at Dunn reveals a player who already has many of the qualities you want in a high-level backcourt player. He can handle the ball, shoot from the perimeter, create off the bounce and finish above the rim. He also has the physical profile to defend multiple positions. His highlight video shows the range of his game, from knocking down threes to attacking the basket and finishing with authority.
Justin McTeer, director of the Underground Hoops Exposure Camp, considers Dunn one of the most talented and versatile players in Georgia’s 2029 class. He also noted that Dunn is already drawing major Division I interest and expects him to make a significant contribution for Pace this season.
“Jace's skill and talent is apparent within a few moments of watching him play, but it's the intangibles that separate him,” McTeer said. “He's a vocal leader who can direct a team, set the tone, and genuinely raise the level of play for his teammates. People want to play better when they play with him and he is capable of being the leader on the court for a great team.”
Dunn is also a standout football player at Pace, another indication of the athleticism and physicality he brings to the basketball court.
There is still plenty of basketball ahead for Dunn. He is young in his high school career and there is room for his game to continue developing. But this is not a case of identifying a player simply because of what he might become. The size, skill, athleticism and versatility are already present.
That makes Dunn a 2029 player in Georgia who deserves to be part of the conversation now. The fun will be seeing how much further the player develops from here.
