Marcus “MJ” Curry Jr., A four-star shooting guard out of Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia, announced his commitment to George Mason last week. Curry completed an official visit with the Patriots earlier this month, where he became the highest-ranked recruit in program history. He is rated as the No. 104 overall-ranked recruit, the No. 29 small forward, and the No. 10 overall-ranked player in the state of Georgia in the class of 2027, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Curry Jr. chose George Mason over Sacramento State and the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB). He was being recruited by Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and several others.
“The staff and their defensive philosophies. “They showed me how I would fit seamlessly into their defensive identity, and the pace they play with on offense seemed really fitting to me”, Curry said. “The facilities and location were top tier as well”, he added.
During his junior season, Curry averaged 19 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals per game for the Rams. The Rams finished the 2025-2026 season with a 26-3 record and reached the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Class AAAAAA Region Finals before their season came to an end against Hillgrove.
During the Grassroots season, Curry started out playing for the Atlanta Celtics on the Adidas 3SSB circuit, before moving on to play under Steven Reece and the Florida Rebels on the Nike EYBL circuit for the July live period. Curry was a member of the Rebels 17U team that went on to win the Peach Jam, where he was teammates with Cayden Daughtry, who also won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the event; he averaged 32 points, four rebounds, and six assists per game. Daughtry also shot 58 percent from inside the three-point line and 45 percent from behind the arc in seven games played at the Peach Jam.
Scouting Report on MJ Curry: Curry brings a versatile skill set to his game; standing at 6-foot-5, he can play multiple positions as well as bring the ability to create his own shot both off the catch and off the bounce. He plays with a competitive and aggressive motor. On the offensive end, he can play above the rim and is comfortable finishing with both hands while being unafraid to absorb contact from multiple defenders. On the defensive end, his size and length give him the potential to guard multiple positions, where he can snatch timely rebounds at the rim, as well as use his quickness to be effective in the passing lanes out on the perimeter. Overall, he is a wiry athlete who is also unafraid when it comes to adding physicality to his skill set. He’s a versatile two-way player whose full potential is continuing to grow.
