AJ Williams, the top-ranked player in the class of 2028, is officially reclassifying to the class of 2027 on Tuesday. On3’s Joe Tipton first reported the news. 

The 6-foot-8 small forward is now ranked No. 4 in the senior class, the No. 2 small forward, and the top-ranked player in the state of Georgia. Williams holds over two dozen offers from schools such as Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, BYU, Cincinnati, Duke, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and several others.

During the Grassroots season, Williams played with Team CP3 on the Nike EYBL Circuit, where he was among the top scorers despite being a year younger. Williams averaged 20.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game while playing with Team CP3.

During the 2025-2026 season at Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy, Williams averaged 31.8 points, 12.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.9 blocks, and 1.6 steals per game. He shot 51% from the field, 33% from behind the arc, and 86% from the free-throw line.

With his reclassification, Williams is eligible to participate in the 2028 National Basketball Association (NBA) Draft, where he will arguably be a lottery pick when the time comes.

Williams will soon start scheduling official visits with his contenders, but has previously taken unofficial visits to Auburn, Duke, and Georgia Tech.

Williams joins a collective list of players who have reclassified within the last five years: Cooper Flagg (Duke, Dallas Mavericks), Marcus Spears (Texas), Bruce Branch III (BYU), Alijah Arenas (USC), and Obienna Ekezie Jr. (Louisville)

Scouting Report on AJ Williams: Williams can score from all three levels with remarkable efficiency. He has a smooth, high release on his jumper, making him a consistent threat from deep, especially off the catch or bounce. He has a great understanding of team defensive principles, rotates effectively, and uses his wingspan to disrupt passing lanes, leading to turnovers and transition opportunities. He has great court vision, and passing out of double teams or off drives are also significant strengths, showing he’s more than just a scorer. On the defensive end, he affects the game in a variety of ways. His length and quickness allow him to guard multiple positions, from smaller guards on the perimeter to stretching bigs in the post; his ability to contest shots without fouling is a definite asset.
