Momentum Building for Blair

Class of 2027 post Kyle Blair earned an offer from Stetson this week according to his Sunshine Elite coach, John Elgani. This off the heels of earning an offer from North Florida earlier this month. The 6-foot-10 prospect attends The First Academy in Orlando.

This is what his high school coach, Tarrik Mabon, had to say when asked about Blair and his development.

Kyle has been resilient over the last four months. He suffered an orbital fracture after taking an elbow to the eye and missed all of June and the first half of July. His unwavering faith in Jesus has shown since. He had a good July live period with Sunshine Elite. And since joining us a month and half ago, he has made amazing strides.

Mabon mentioned Blair’s size, athleticism, and effort. He goes on to say, “we will be able to hard hedge and switch ball screens because he has exceptional footwork for a big his size.”

Given these attributes, it is clear as to why Blair is attracting such attention in the Sunshine State.

PSB Guard gives Commitment to Perennial D-III Contender

Mack Walters of Charlotte, North Carolina committed to Hampden-Sydney College this week. He is a 6-foot-2 combo guard who competed with PSB Barnes this year on the OTR Circuit. Here is what our OTR Staff writer had to say about Walters’ game from this spring:

Walters is a fundamentally sound, well-rounded player who brings a high level of basketball IQ and consistency to the floor. He reads the defense well and makes smart, calculated decisions with the ball, whether it’s setting up teammates or creating for himself.

Walters saw his hard work over the years pay off with the PSB program concluding with the opportunity to play in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). Here is what his club coach, Chris Goodrum, had to say about Walters and his commitment:

Mack and his family have been a part of PSB for years. Their trust in us and his commitment to the process have paved the way for his success. He plays with pace, joy, relentless effort, and he takes ultimate pride in guarding the best. For Mack, Hampden-Sydney just felt right–the coaching staff, the team, and the culture are something special.

Hampden-Sydney College is in Sydney, Virginia. The Tigers finished with a 23-6 overall record ranked No. 11 in the D3hoops.com Top 25 last year. They advanced to the Sweet 16 this March after making their third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance under coach Caleb Kimbrough.

OTR Circuit Star Heading to the OVC

Malik Gillespie of Houston County and the Warner-Robins All-Stars announced his commitment to Morehead State last month. Gillespie built a reputation as a tough, competitive two-way guard on the OTR Circuit over the past six years.

Here is what we wrote from last year’s Elite 32:

The athletic combo guard proved last weekend that he could score while running around screens in the half court. Defenses cannot grant him the 3-point shot, because he is consistent with his jumper. However, he is most deadly with his off the dribble game. His body control and footwork allow him to score in an array of ways in traffic and in the lane.

Gillespie and the Warner Robins All-Stars organization made sure that they competed against the best teams in the Southeast while playing in front of the rows of college coaches. Gillespie’s trajectory proves once again that the best will be seen on the OTR Circuit. Competing with an independent organization and growing up outside of the Metro Atlanta area, Gillespie’s name held weight in the minds of dozens of college programs across the country.

Here is what Coach Brooks of the WR All-Stars had to say about Gillespie and his development:

Coaching Malik has been such a gift. His tenacity, drive, and love for the game make him so coachable. Watching his growth since he was ten years old has been incredible as he leaves it all on the court and pushes himself to be 1% better every day. He will bring competitiveness, IQ, and the ability to defend to the collegiate level.
