OTR Hoops: Florida The Opening – Top Floor Generals – March 26, 2024

OTR hit the sunshine state this past weekend for The Florida Opening, our first Florida event of the year. 10 courts under one roof and a ton of talent made for another weekend full of storylines. We break down some of the top point guards that were in attendance.

Giordan Easley – 2025 – SWFL Hoops Red

Giordan Easley, a Minnesota native, has been making waves since his arrival in Florida last year. This weekend provided my first in-person look and Easley didn’t disappoint. We witnessed the volume scoring ability as early as game one when he erupted for 28 points. Easley is so quick and crafty with the ball in his hands, capable of creating offense whenever he chooses. With Giordan Easley running the show and Pat Johnson patrolling the paint, SWFL Hoops will be tough to beat this spring.

Isaiah Newson – 2026 – SCE

Isaiah Newson is playing up with SCE’s 17u team this spring, but the age difference didn’t stop him from getting his buckets this weekend. Newson is a twitchy little point guard that can score from all three levels. He loves the three-ball and finds different ways to get it off. After putting up some huge numbers throughout the high school season, Newson kept it going with a big weekend at The Florida Opening.

DJ Sandi – 2026 – 1 Family

1 Family has a good one coming up in DJ Sandi. He proved to be one of the top point guards in attendance regardless of class. Sandi offers high-level production on both ends of the floor. He’s an elite on-ball defender, so strong and scrappy. Offensively, Sandi loves to get into the paint and utilize the soft floater. DJ Sandi should attract several D1s this spring and summer as the premier prospect for 1 Family’s 16u group.

Michael Otero – 2026 – Puerto Rico Basketball Academy

Michael Otero ran the show for PRBA this weekend and did so efficiently. Otero is a true floor general, able to score within the flow of the game and make plays for others. He’s crafty with the ball and moves well without it, multiple points off of sneaky cuts. Puerto Rico Basketball Academy is worth seeing again and Otero is set to raise his stock tremendously.

Jakhai Ford – 2027 – FTL

Jakhai Ford opened a lot of eyes this weekend while playing up with FTL’s 16u team. Ford is skilled beyond his years and doesn’t lack in size or power, able to body guards and brush off contact, even in the 16u division. There’s a level of finesse to Ford’s game that few players his age possess. Ford has a solid handle with some wiggle and can create scoring opportunities off the dribble. He’s definitely one to track in Florida’s 2027 class.
