OTR Hoops News: 3-star Shooting Guard Traymaine Belanger commits to Austin Peay

By: Ross Van De Griek

6-foot-8 senior shooting guard Traymaine Belanger announced he has committed to play collegiate basketball at a Division I mid-major on Wednesday. He will play his collegiate career at Austin Peay University.

Belanger moved to Zephyrhills, Florida, over the summer from Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, where he will play on the Grind Session circuit, where he attends Zephyrhills Christian Academy where he will be teammates with five-star power forward Toni Bryant (Missouri commit), four-star small forward Alex Davis (Transferred from Mainland), and sophomore shooting guard Ethan Knox (Transferred from Santa Fe Catholic and North Tampa Christian) this season.

Belanger chose Austin Peay over notable Power 4 offers such as Arizona State, California, and Washington. He also held an offer from the University of San Francisco, which came before his move to the Sunshine State.

Belanger is a long and athletic wing who excels at playing off two feet, making timely passes, and finishing at the rim while drawing contact. Offensively, he has developed into a three-level scorer, effective both off the bounce and in catch-and-shoot situations. Defensively, he is effective when it comes to taking advantage of mismatches where his length and athleticism allow him to alter shots at the rim as well as out on the perimeter.

In 2023, Belanger played for the Canadian U16 National Team, where he helped lead the Canadians to a Silver medal finish despite playing limited minutes during the tournament.
