OTR Hoops News: 4-star Shooting Guard commits to Kansas

Luke Barrett, A 6-3 shooting guard out of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, announced his commitment to the University of Kansas. Barnett chose the Jayhawks over Arizona State, Miami, Santa Barbara, TCU, UNLV, Washington, and several others.
Barnett becomes the fourth commit in the upcoming recruiting cycle to join Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks, where he will also be joined by Overtime Elite’s Tay Kinney, Prolific Prep’s Davion Adkins, and Link Academy’s Trent Perry.
Barnett brings a refined scoring skillset, combining catch-and-shoot ability with the capacity to play off the bounce, making him a huge asset for the Jayhawks. He is ranked among the top shooters in the class, where he scores on all three levels at a respectable percentage given his size and strength, where he can finish at the front of the rim while drawing contact. On the defensive end, Barnett plays with length and athleticism, which gives him upside, as well as playing with a high motor.
During the Grassroots circuit, Barnett played with Arizona Unity, which is part of the Nike EYBL Circuit. He shot 37% from three-point range and created for himself as well as his teammates on the offensive end. In 11 games played, Barnett averaged 13.0 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. His most notable standout performance came during the Memphis session, where he finished with 27 points and made a team-high five 3-pointers back in May.
In a game during his junior season at Mater Dei, Barnett set a school record for most points in a game (55) as well as most made 3-pointers in a single game (12), so he has improved his perimeter shooting over the course of his junior season to his senior season.
