OTR Hoops News: Cade Murphy commits to Eastern Kentucky

By: Ross Van De Griek

One of the top shooters in the state of Tennessee announced his commitment on Thursday. The 6-foot-5 senior shooting guard, Cade Murphy, from Knoxville Catholic High School, will be heading to Eastern Kentucky University to begin his collegiate basketball career.

Murphy chose Eastern Kentucky over Air Force, Middle Tennessee, Navy, Radford, among other mid-majors.

Murphy displays a high IQ on the offensive end, where he doesn’t force a bad shot, as well as having a knack for playing unselfishly, where he will pass up a good shot to set his teammates up for a better shot. His effectiveness off the bounce continued to make huge strides during the Grassroots circuit, where he played for Team Loaded, earning a spot on the Adidas 3SSB All-Breakout team. On the defensive end, Murphy brings a strong frame and is a very active rebounder for his size.

During his junior season with Knoxville Catholic, Murphy averaged 22.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 50.3% from inside the arc and 44% from three-point distance.

During his sophomore season with the Fighting Irish, Murphy averaged 15.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 48% from inside the arc and 45% from behind the arc.

Knoxville Catholic finished the 2024-2025 season with a 21-9 record.
