OTR Hoops News: Four-star Wing Herly Brutus commits to LSU

By: Ross Van De Griek

6-foot-7 senior small forward Herly Brutus, out of The Villages Charter High School and Tre Mann Elite, committed to LSU over the weekend.

Brutus chose the Tigers over Gonzaga, Saint Louis, South Florida, Utah, and several others.

Brutus can play multiple positions, whether it’s a combo guard or the small forward position, where he plays with solid length and athleticism, as well as possessing a solid frame. He can also defend multiple positions and is a highly skilled rebounder on the defensive end. On offense, he has become a vital threat in transition, where he has an explosive first step when it comes to finishing at the front of the rim. His handle has also improved, as well as building a consistent jump shot.

During his time with Tre Mann Elite on the PRO16 League Circuit, Brutus averaged 11.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. Brutus shot 31.4% from three-point range while improving his shooting touch inside the arc, where he shot at a 55.2% clip.

During his junior season at The Villages Charter, Brutus averaged 10.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. He shot 48% from the field inside the three-point arc and was a 76% free throw shooter last season for The Buffalo.
