OTR Hoops News: Kingston Whitty commits to West Virginia

By: Ross Van De Griek

Kingston Whitty, A 6-foot-2, 165-pound shooting guard out of Christ School in Arden, North Carolina, announced his commitment to West Virginia on Tuesday morning.

Whitty chose the Mountaineers over Belmont, Chattanooga, Dartmouth, Fordham, George Mason, Liberty, Marshall, Maryland, New Mexico, Stetson, Tennessee, Toledo, and several others.

Whitty is at his best offensively when he is coming off screens and can finish downhill through traffic with his athleticism, as well as displaying great body control finishing through contact on layups at the rim. On the defensive end, he is very active when it comes to applying pressure in the passing lanes and is a good rebounder for his size, where he can push the ball up the floor in transition.

Whitty also has great court vision and can find open teammates, whether it’s on the move or when he’s getting to his spots.

Whitty made a name for himself last spring when playing for Pro One Basketball on the Under Armour Circuit, where he had very little college interest. He would go on to lead the team in scoring, where he averaged 18.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game.

Before making the move to Christ School this summer, Whitty attended Holy Innocents Episcopal in Atlanta, Georgia, where he averaged 10.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game while shooting 51% from inside the three-point arc and 33% from behind the arc as a junior.

Whitty becomes the second West Virginia commit for the upcoming recruiting cycle, where he joins Bella Vista Prep (Arizona) center Aliou Dioum, who committed to the Mountaineers last month.
