OTR Hoops: Proven Grounds Standouts Part II – April 30, 2025

A list of standouts from the Proven Grounds in Birmingham, Alabama, last weekend.
By: Adam Spiller
Jeremy Chatman – Alabama Fusion EYCL 17U | Shades Valley HS – 2026
This past weekend in Cullman Alabama Fusion 17U impressed top to bottom. Chatman stood out amongst his teammates. He shoots it at the most efficient level from deep, can play above the rim any time, and defends ninety-four feet. He has great anticipation skills, solid leadership qualities, and seems to be very coachable as well. Reaching the 1000-point mark through just his junior year at Shades Valley HS, Chatman is surely to skyrocket up college coaches boards this spring and summer.
Marcus Arnold – JSI Elite 16U Gold – 2027
Marcus Arnold plays with a natural calmness about him as if he plays basketball for a living. Great size already at the PG position, Arnold gives JSI Elite 16U Gold group a distinct advantage when he laces up. He forces defenders to come out and guard with his ability to shoot from outside, and as soon as they do he blows by them either facilitating or scoring. His IQ stands out amongst other qualities which stands to reason given his 4.08 GPA at Pelham HS. This dual sport athlete is one to continue to watch throughout the rest of the spring and summer.
Deryl Williams – Alabama Fusion EYCL 17U | Victory Rock Prep – 2026
Cullman OmniPlex was full of talent this past weekend at the Proven Grounds event. Perhaps the prospect with more upside than anyone in the building was Alabama Fusions Deryl Williams. The Bohemian native now playing at Victory Rock Prep in Florida improved game by game. His 6’7 frame and ability to guard multiple positions was intriguing, but he then proceeded to hit four threes in one half, forcing his opponent to come out and guard him. His tight handle and solid finishing ability made it very easy to see why he should be on every coaches radar this summer.
Bryce Young – Alabma Generals – 2028
There was not a more impressive team at the 15U level this past weekend than the Alabama Generals. One of the main reasons for their success was 6’2 guard Bryce Young. Young constantly disrupted on the defensive end staying in passing lanes and giving himself chances in transition. At only 15 years old, Young possesses a swagger about himself that screams competitor. He has every intangible you want in a recruit his age. Athleticism, IQ, shooting ability, finishes through contact, you name it he does it.
