Standouts from Saturday of the Atlanta Classic.

By: Jaron Pierre-Mathurine

Vance Wilder 6’0 G 2029 Atlanta Xpress

Walking bucket and 3 level scorer. Can run the offense if need be or play off ball as well. Active defensively picking up steals and blocks across the contest. Offensively gifted at an early age. Generator type scorer and doesn’t force the issue looking for a basket. Well rounded group and Vance will easily be a name we hear throughout the circuit.

Corban Reed 6’4 G 2029 Atlanta XPress

Big guard for this group. He started the game just making reads, initiating the offense, getting his teammates involved, and when he decided to show off the scoring bag he flipped the switch big time. Very effective mid range game, does a good job getting to the ft line as well. With his size and shooting ability at the guard spot, continuing to understand the game, control the pace and utilizing his size, his potential will be through the roof.

Kingston Clahar 6’0 G 2029 Atlanta Xpress

Ultra smooth guard. Understood pace and control early. Couldn’t be guarded 1 on 1 as he blew by every defender and showed off some acrobatic layup finishes. Has that swag and flair that you look for early with a game that follows suit. Shoots the ball well and has nice size at the guard spot to bully smaller guards. Keep an eye out for this one.

AT Jones 5’10 G 2029 Bo Bell

At was a walking bucket. The coach for this group emphasizes his kids play the right way, down to executing effective screens, hard cuts and understanding gaps. Mix that in with AT ability to score and the ceiling looks bright for this kid. He had some deceptive size and strength to him, could score on 3 levels, especially his elbow jumpers and catch and shoot 3s along with being physical getting to the rim. He understands it early and will be relied upon heavily to get buckets for this group.

Benny Crane III 5’9 G 2029 Bo Bell

His defense was a sight to watch and really set the tone for this group. It was his primary role to start but he too showed the ability to score with ease throughout the contest. Slid his feet well, good low base, active hands and gritty.

Trae Townsell 6’2 F 2029 Flo Elite

Big body and good size for his age. He was the enforcer for this group, protecting everything in the paint and grabbing every rebound. He ran the floor well, can put the ball on the ground. Has all around athleticism for his size.

Jherel Gibson 5’10 G 2029 Flo Elite

was a blur in transition and threw down multiple jams at his young age. He did a good job attacking the soft spots in defense and getting behind defenders for easy lay-ins. Gritty defender that already has an above the rim mindset.

Luigi Martell 6’1 G 2029 Bcat Narrow Gate (Rivera)

Super effective player who can score in bunches. Good iq and coaching around him as he did the little things extremely well. Erupted for 15pts in the second half of a matchup I watched including the dagger 3. Had a play drawn up for him and the efforts he showed to get open and get around the screen single handedly broke down the defense for him to get a wide open shot. It’s the little things with him.

Dorian Douglas 5’10 G 2029 AE5

DD continues to make his splash on the scene and always finds a way to contribute and have his team leave with a win. He has infectious energy on the court, sees the game at a different speed, and is a playmaker in his own right. If he commits to offense, he can stuff the stat sheet or he sees a mismatch in the defense he will pick on that. Active hands defensively, quick first step and a fearless competitor.

Chauncey Young II 6’4 F 2029 Swain

Vicious rim runner with a high motor. Threw down a couple of jams for momentum plays displaying some freakish athleticism. He has good size at 6’4 early, man the post well and coverts on lays for easy buckets. The more he adds to his tool bag the more it will see his performances become more dominant. He understands it early though.

Amare Medhin 6’2 G 2029 AOT

Continues to get better each tournament covered. Big guard who was jumping every passing lane and pick pocketing defenders. Good pace when attacking the basket and has a very effective pull game. All the pieces are slowly coming together and hes gotten his reps in early.
