Devin Melton of Team Person earned OTR Circuit 15U MVP honors this season. The 6-foot-9 forward/center from Brantley High School in Alabama proved to be one of the most consistent producers on the circuit. He was a regular double-double threat in points and rebounds while showing the versatility to finish above the rim and guard multiple positions.

Melton spent most of the season with the 15U group but stepped up with the 17U team in key moments. Evaluators took notice of his two-way impact. Ross Van De Griek noted that Melton “uses his length [to] be effective in the paint as well as showing elite footwork to defend out on the perimeter.” He was also listed among the top defenders on the 15U circuit.

OTR coverage repeatedly pointed to the same traits. In a report from the Carolina Memorial Day Classic, Miguel Ribero noted that Melton “physically overwhelmed opponents throughout the weekend with his interior presence and rebounding ability.” OTR writer Q. Green described him as a paint presence who finishes above the rim, cleans the glass, and still finds teammates out of double teams. The consistent praise from evaluators across multiple events helped solidify his case for the 15U MVP award.

When asked about the MVP recognition, Melton kept the focus forward. He said he is anxious to keep working and improving so he can help Brantley win another state title this coming season. The Bulldogs claimed the Class 1A championship last year, and Melton was a key piece in that run as a freshman.

Playing under the guidance of NBA great Chuck Person and the Team Person program has put Melton on a clear path of development. Person has long spoken highly of the young forward’s upside. The work is showing. Melton already finishes with authority and protects the rim. What stands out next is the potential beyond a traditional frontline role. He can step out and shoot the three. He switches onto guards in ball-screen action and stays in front of them. With his footwork, agility, and growing skill set, Melton carries the prototype of a 3-and-D wing at 6-foot-9. That combination of size, mobility, and feel is rare, and it keeps raising his ceiling.
