Gavin Reed, A 6-foot rising senior point guard out of Team Gold Coast and Coral Glades High School, announced he will be committing to play collegiate basketball at Alabama-Huntsville on Friday.
Reed chose the Chargers over D1 Georgia Southern, Lipscomb, Tennessee Tech, Indian River State College, and the University of Tampa. He was also receiving interest from several mid-major Division 1 programs.
During the Grassroots season, Reed played under his current high school head coach, Stefan Wittingham, at Team Gold Coast, where he was teammates with a handful of his high school mates, such as Nate Accius, Donovan Swain (On the Radar Circuit MVP), and Ethan Jean-Louis.
"I just want to thank the staff at Alabama-Huntsville for doing such a great job recruiting Gavin," Coach Stefan Wittingham told OTR. "They were locked in and knew what they wanted as soon as they saw him. They put so much time and effort into getting to know Gavin as a person. I know Gavin is going to really succeed there and it won’t be his final stop."
During his junior season at Coral Glades High School, Reed averaged 13.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. He was efficient when it came to his shooting display as well, where he shot 48% from the three-point line, 50% from inside the three-point line, and 80% from the free-throw line. The Jaguars finished the 2025-2026 season with a 21-8 record and had their season come to an end in the Class 7A, Region 4 Final against the eventual state champion Columbus Explorers.
OTR Southeast Region Scout Ross Van De Griek on Reed at Power 24: Reed is a quick and shifty guard who can score on all three levels, as well as be a distributor on the offensive end. On the defensive end, he applies constant on-the-ball pressure as well as being active in the passing lanes. He can force turnovers with his quickness and ability to disrupt offensive flow with his length and versatility when guarding off the ball. Overall, Reed plays with confidence, where he creates scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. His high IQ sets the tone for his teammates and makes the right plays. He was consistently one of the top point guards on the circuit this season
OTR Writer Cameron Ross on Reed at Sweet Sixteen in May: Gavin is a super crafty guard, consistently making plays where he scored on all three levels both off the catch and bounce. He also created for his teammates using his tight handle and quick first step on the offensive end. He allowed the defense to collapse with his ability to drive-and-kick to the open shooters. On the defensive end, he guarded multiple positions and competed for rebounds on the glass.
