OTR Hoops: Florida’s 20 Combo Guards Regardless of Class

With the 2026-2027 season getting underway in just a few weeks, we are taking a closer look at 20 of the top combo guards in the Sunshine State worth keeping an eye on this season, regardless of class. From rising seniors to proven underclassmen, here are the top point guards in Florida. Keep in mind these names are not listed in no particular order:

Ross Van De Griek

Oct 10, 2026

Orlando Roche - Belen Jesuit - 2027

The FIU commit is one of the more prolific shooters in the state for his class, where he shot nearly 40% from behind the arc as a junior last season. Roche has a great feel for the game, bringing good size from the secondary guard position as well as utilizing his athleticism to finish over bigger defenders at the rim. He consistently finds ways to make an impact whether he has the basketball in his hands or if he is playing off-ball.

Braxton Keathley - Prolific Prep - 2027

Keathley is a dangerous perimeter shooter who can make you pay off the bounce or catch when given the right amount of space. He plays with a high IQ and can get to his spots as the primary ballhandler or the ability to play off the ball. He can also make plays happen where he can finish at the rim, using his strength to his advantage, finishing over multiple defenders. Expect a big senior season for the Pacific commit, as he will be playing a national schedule after playing last season at Martin County in Kentucky.

Oneal Delancy - Montverde Academy - 2027

Delancy has become more comfortable whether it is initiating the offense as a primary ballhandler or playing off ball. He shows incredible poise and patience in the half-court, where he can read defenses before making his move to score or get his teammates involved. He also has a strong sense for when to push the ball in transition, where he can turn his defense into offense by generating steals and getting deflections in the passing lanes. The Houston commit is one of the top two-way guards not just in the state, but arguably in the country. Overall, he brings a high motor and competitive edge that should feed off his teammates once again this season and will translate when he steps onto campus in a Kelvin Sampson system.

Miguel Orbe - Mater Lakes Academy - 2027

Orbe often plays both guard positions, depending on the matchup. With the ball in his hands, he doesn’t get rattled by opposing guards when blitzed in the half-court. He is patient when it comes to letting plays develop before making a decision on when to shoot versus getting his teammates involved. On the defensive end, he plays with a little physicality, where he can bump opposing guards off the line or use his length, which often forces the opposition into taking a tough shot. He is also unafraid when it comes to guarding bigger players, as he uses his strength to stay in front and uses his athleticism to snatch down timely rebounds, limiting the opposition from getting second-chance scoring opportunities.

Lucai Anderson - IMG Academy - 2027

Anderson lets his size dictate his play style, where he can either shoot over smaller guards or have a burst of speed that allows him to get to the rim and finish over bigger defenders. On the defensive end, Anderson is versatile, as he shows elite athleticism to guard out on the perimeter, as well as showcasing his length, where he can defend in the paint. He also moves exceptionally well without the basketball in his hands, where he can relocate to his spots. Overall, his catch-and-shoot mechanics from the perimeter need a little more improvement as he gears up for his senior season. His combination skill set of ball-handling and being a primary scorer should set up Anderson to succeed with the talent around him.

Camden Cooper - San Jose Prep - 2027

Cooper uses his elite size where he can comfortably handle the basketball as well as play off the ball in the half-court. He can score on all three levels comfortably over multiple defenders, both off the catch and off the bounce. He is unafraid when it comes to using his size to guard multiple positions on the defensive end, impacting the game as a rebounder and a pest when pursuing the passing lanes. Look for the Florida A&M commit to have a strong senior season, as he will translate to the point guard position at the next level.

James Nowells - Calvary Christian Academy (Fort Lauderdale) - 2027

The recent North Florida commit has polished himself onto the national scene, where he is coming off a junior season in which he averaged a team-high 18 points per game at Olympia. He is vital when it comes to his perimeter shooting, as well as adding confidence as a playmaker when he has the basketball in his hands. On the defensive end, he is hard-nosed and competitive, where he can apply pressure on the ball and utilize his quickness to assert himself into the passing lanes, where he generates steals that often lead to scores on the offensive end. Look for Nowells to continue to raise his stock during his senior season.

Johnny Lackaff - Sarasota - 2027

Lackaff has proven himself to be a winner and is statistically one of the top perimeter shooters in the state regardless of class. He has elite court vision for his age, and his gifted size allows him to see over multiple defenses. On the offensive end, he dictates possessions, where he uses his smooth handle and having a strong understanding of pick-and-pop situations. On the defensive end, he stays engaged and understands the matchups where he can use his length to be a disruptor in the passing lanes, as well as snatching down timely rebounds, which allow him to push tempo in transition. Overall, Lackaff doesn’t need to score in bunches to make an impact, but he is certainly capable of being the primary scorer and taking over games when needed.

Terrance Walker - Edgewater - 2027

Walker is coming off an impressive summer playing with 1Family on the PRO16 League circuit. He uses his good size and athleticism where he can attack downhill and finish around the basket while being unafraid to absorb contact. He has also improved his shot from the perimeter, where he can shoot effectively both off the catch and off the bounce. On the defensive end, he is active and explosive when it comes to using his speed to stay in front of opposing guards, as well as generate steals when it comes to jumping the passing lanes. Overall, he plays with great energy that feeds off his teammates, and he is expected to have a strong senior season.

Chase Weismiller - Sickles - 2028

Weismiller has a lightning-quick release where he doesn’t need a lot of time and space to get off a solid shot. He forces the defense to stay engaged and attached, and his limitless shooting range goes well beyond the three-point line. He also uses his speed and strength to finish around the rim over multiple defenders. On the defensive end, he can guard on the ball as well as apply pressure in the passing lanes. Look for Weismiller to have a healthy and strong season after missing nearly a year recovering from a serious knee injury that derailed his junior season.

Jaden Clardy - DME Academy - 2028

Clardy is often at times viewed as a point guard, but with his gifted size, he can play both guard positions at a high level. On the offensive end, he can score from all three levels and snatch down timely rebounds on both ends of the floor. He also plays with control and has a great understanding of spacing on the offensive end, where he rarely forces difficult shots within the half-court. On the defensive end, his size and length allow him to guard multiple positions, and he has become more dependable when applying ball pressure and staying disciplined. With more touch and confidence in his all-around game, don’t be surprised if Clardy makes a big jump this upcoming season.

Kwame Poke Jr. - West Oaks Academy - 2028

Poke continues to show tremendous upside after spending the summer season playing for A1 Elite 16U. He plays with high-level athleticism, where he plays with relentless pressure on opposing bigs and creating havoc with his timely rebounding and length when it comes to altering shots around the rim. In transition, Poke can stop on a dime, and he can connect on perimeter shots both off the catch and off the bounce. Poke also shows great strides, and he can finish around the rim through contact and has a dangerous mid-range game on the offensive end as well. Overall, he is a dynamic player who can make plays happen with his relentless motor and energy that continue to feed off his teammates.

Tico Smith - Victory Christian Academy - 2028

Coming off a sophomore season, Smith has shown a ton of confidence, and he can play as a point guard and as a shooting guard. Last season at Wildwood, Smith made a team-best 82 3-pointers and led his team in scoring, where he averaged 19 points per game. Aside from his perimeter shooting, Smith is creative when it comes to playing around the basket, which makes him one of the more exciting combo guards to watch heading into this season. He is expected to play a key role for Victory Christian Academy as they could be destined to make a deep playoff run and maybe another run at the Class 1A Final for a third consecutive year.

Markel Holmes - Exclusive Prep - 2028

Holmes does a great job when it comes to using his strength when attacking downhill and finishing around the rim. He consistently puts pressure on opposing defenses, whether it’s scoring from the perimeter or making an extra pass to get his teammates involved. On the defensive end, he rebounds exceptionally well from the guard position and uses his speed to push the basketball in transition. During his junior season at University Christian, he averaged 14.4 points per game and led the Christians to a regional quarterfinal berth.

Ka’Shawn Gill - Southeastern Prep Academy - 2028

Gill is a pure guard whose strength is coming off screens and shooting off the catch. He has an excellent shooting stroke where he doesn’t need a ton of time to get off a solid shot, as well as adding pure elevation into his form. On the defensive end, he has elite speed and athleticism that allow him to stay engaged in front of opposing guards, as well as utilizing his length to chase down shots around the rim. He has quickly emerged as one of the top two-way guards in his class. He is already receiving offers from Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Nevada, Syracuse, West Virginia, and several others.

Quinton Wilson - Wellington Sports Academy - 2028

Wilson has a strong and athletic frame and is unafraid when it comes to guarding bigger wings on the defensive end, as well as finishing through contact at the rim on the offensive end. He also adds a potent scoring ability where he can connect on all three scoring levels, as well as be a playmaker where he often gets his teammates involved. He has been battle-tested since he was a starting point guard as a freshman on a Victory Christian Academy squad that made it to their first Final Four appearance in program history. He has received several Power 4 offers from notable schools such as Arizona, California, Florida State, Michigan, among several others. Overall, Wilson is a Top-30 ranked prospect in his class and could continue to climb in the rankings over the course of the next two years.

Josiah Brooks - Sports Leadership & Management (Miami) - 2029

Brooks does a great job when it comes to generating the offense from all levels, whether it’s stretching the defense with the ability to score from well beyond the three-point line or stopping on a dime with his dangerous pull-up jump shot. He also uses his craftiness and speed to finish around the rim and has an advanced IQ for his age. Overall, he plays with a ton of confidence and is in control, and he can create for his teammates as a primary ball handler. He is already hearing from several Power 4 schools after receiving his first offer as an eighth grader.

Harlem McNeal - Monsignor Pace - 2029

McNeal comes to South Florida after playing his freshman season at Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey. He has a tight handle, where he uses his speed and craftiness to blow by the defense, finishing around the rim in a variety of ways. He can also score in the mid-range as well as from the perimeter, where he doesn’t need a ton of time to get a clean look at the rim. He stays engaged on the defensive end as well, where his combination skill set of speed and athleticism allows him to generate steals, which often at times allow him to push the pace in transition. Overall, McNeal is a talented guard who coaches are going to want to know about over the course of the next few years.

Delan Montgomery - Mater Lakes Academy - 2029

Montgomery spent his freshman season playing at Miami Country Day, which made a run at the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 2A playoffs, making it to the championship game. He shows great positional size, and he can create on the offensive end both off the catch and off the dribble. He is a capable shot maker who can score effectively on all three scoring levels when timing allows him to get off a clean look. On the defensive end, his length allows him to be effective where he can guard on the ball as well as off the ball. Overall, he is comfortable playing either the point guard or shooting guard position, as he is expected to fill in some big shoes for Tai Bell, who transferred to Columbus earlier in the summer.

Jeremiah Reid - Kissimmee Osceola - 2029

Reid is coming off a strong summer playing for the Florida Rebels 15U EYBL team. He brings a physical, strong presence on both ends of the floor, where he is unafraid when it comes to scoring around the rim through contact. He also demonstrates great court awareness, and he makes smart decisions when he has the basketball in his hands. Overall, Reid is continuing to develop a consistent perimeter game, but he has the potential to be one of the top combo guards in the state for his class.

Corban Copeland - Palmetto Ridge - 2029

Copeland is coming off a strong summer where he played for Austin Rivers SE Elite 3SSB 15U. On the offensive end, he is a polished scorer for his age, and he can score on all three levels, both off the catch and off the bounce. He is a very smart player for his age, and he doesn’t get rattled when he has the basketball in his hands as he waits for the game to come to him. On the defensive end, he applies relentless pressure when guarding the ball as well as being unafraid to showcase his size when defending bigger players. Overall, Copeland is a true two-way playmaker who is just scratching the surface of his full potential. During his freshman season, Copeland averaged 15.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and nearly two steals per game.
