Three-star senior power forward Asher Elson, out of Overtime Elite in Atlanta, Georgia, announced he has committed to Xavier University on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-11 senior chose the Musketeers over Auburn, Creighton, Maryland, Syracuse, and several others. Elson also held offers from Fordham, Georgia Tech, Illinois, and St. John’s throughout his recruitment process.
Elson has an improved offensive skillset where he brings a combination of length, athleticism, and running the floor exceptionally well for his size. He can finish above the rim, whether it’s off put-backs or playing with his back to the basket. On the defensive end, Elson brings versatility, where he can defend multiple positions as well as block shots at a high level, and can impact the game when guarding out on the perimeter as well. His high energy will give him a chance to evolve his game as a perimeter threat on the offensive end, as well, where his game fits the modern college game, being able to stretch the floor and create his own shot off the bounce.
Elson is a native of Brooklyn, New York, where he spent last spring and summer playing for New Heights on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit, where he averaged 12.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 55% from inside the three-point line and shot 36.7% from behind the arc in limited attempts.
Last season in his first year playing on the Overtime Elite Circuit, Elson averaged 10.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in nearly 22 minutes of action. He shot 39.1% from the field and nearly 69% from the free throw line.
