It’s time for the class of 2027 to take center stage. As they do they’ll inevitably fill the headlines with new names. Below is a mix of new faces to enter the ranks. Here’re 8 players to get acquainted with from the Florida opening.
Roy Berry III - Worldwide Soldiers - 2027
Berry is an explosive lead ball handler who can get a bucket on all three levels. He has a tight, quick handle that lulls defenders to sleep before he explodes to the basket. He’s a very under control athlete who can change direction quickly or put his shoulder in your chest and power through. He can score in bunches, get teammates open looks, and put pressure on the rim.
Isaac Smithers - Tony Gaskins Elite - 2027
Smithers is a smooth yet explosive combo guard. He’s comfortable waiting in the wings where a consistent shooting stroke and quick feet make him an off ball scoring threat. On the ball he’s a scoring guard who increases the pace of the offense. He’s an above the rim athlete who uncorked windmill dunk and posterized someone on Sunday.
Naqualen Gunter - Tony Gaskins Elite Regional - 2027
Gunter is right 6-foot-2 with a long wingspan and strong frame. His best offensive weapon is his ability to get downhill. Once he has you on your hills he can go through your chest for looks at the rim or hit a consistent mid range jumper. Defensively he’s a good athlete who will defend 94 feet in big moments.
Edson Oliveira Da Silva - Poinciana - 2027
Edson is a bruising 6-foot-7 power forward who does most of his damage in the paint. He runs the floor hard on both ends. On offense he uses that momentum to seal defenders deep in the paint. On defense he’s a wall who protects the paint and grabs boards.
Whitfield Bynoe - Sunshine Elite - 2027
Bynoe is an undersized guard that’ll make you pay for not respecting his game. He has one of the best isolation scoring bags I saw all weekend. He favors the right side of the floor way more than the left and it’s still hard for defense to stop him from getting to his spot. He’s a crafty ball handler who can shed defenders with an array of moves. He’s comfortable shooting off the catch or off the dribble. His early calling card right now is breaking down defenders on the wing and finishing with style against bigger players.
AD Willis - Tony Gaskins Elite - 2027
Willis is one of the most explosive 6-foot-8 athletes in Florida high school basketball. He’s best when the game is fast or he comes into a play with a head full of steam. He is capable of knocking down shots from beyond the arc. Willis looks the part of Division I athletes who have been in the gym for a few years. He’s a lob threat on one end and switchable defender on the other who can disrupt passing lanes.
Cory McPherson - Sunshine Elite - 2027
McPherson looked like your quintessential combo guard prospect. At just 5-foot-11 he’s the type of athlete who has no problem challenging a bouncy 6-foot-7 defender on the break like he did on Sunday. He shoots the cover off the ball when he’s off ball and creates his shot from either wing. McPherson checks off a ton of boxes for someone looking for a combo guard who can fill needs on offense while not being productive on the defensive side of the ball.
Daneal Krylov - OCO - 2027
Krylov is a 6-foot-7 perimeter player who can create his own shot in the half court. His size and craft allows him to play at his own pace. He does a good job of attacking angles and using his frame to bump defenders off their spots. Krylov is comfortable initiating an offense, hitting shots off the dribble, and attacking the rim. Krylov doesn’t rely on his athleticism but the jumbo wing can finish amongst the trees.
