This week we look at four versatile forwards who have earned a spot on our radar. College coaches look for size, versatility, and productivity. These players are some of the most promising prospects we have seen on the OTR courts this year.
Jayden Gunby – Phillips Academy Andover (MD) – 2027
Last year was a roller coaster for Gunby. He emerged as the go-to player for the Charlotte Aces on the OTR Circuit. The 6-foot-7 forward specialized in physical play around the rim. His consistency earned him recognition as an MVP candidate heading into the July viewing period. His father passed away that same month. Gunby played through the first weekend, honoring his father’s memory. He delivered in a way that scouts still talk about. On the Radar Hoops created the Jayden Gunby Perseverance Award to recognize the obstacles he overcame and to honor the character his father instilled in him.
Gunby continues his journey at Phillips Academy in Andover, Maryland. He just turned 17 and is young for his class. He still has time to develop. Aces club director Kevin Ligón says there is a strong likelihood Gunby will return with the Aces for the live period events.
Byron Lee – Grayson High School – 2027
Lee enters his senior year at Grayson joining a talented lineup. The 6-foot-7 wing-forward has earned a reputation for his high motor and physicality. His defensive versatility is one of the more underrated parts of his game. While his fast-break dunks catch the headlines, he can block shots at the rim or switch onto smaller guards. He picked up a handful of offers this year. More should be on the way if the Rams make a postseason run.
Baer Bailey – Greater Atlanta Christian – 2028
Bailey has earned a reputation as one of the top prospects in the state. At 6-foot-8, he has the length to play along the frontline and rebound. The strength of his game centers on his ability to handle in the open court and make plays. He is also a reliable scorer in the high post. He is efficient with turnaround jumpers, uses good footwork, and can navigate traffic to score. Expect his name to surge this winter.
Anthony Moon – Pebblebrook – 2027
Moon is one of the more intriguing players in the state. The 6-foot-7 forward built a reputation on playing hard, rebounding, and running the floor. He still does those things and has added tools to his offensive game. He shows a smooth pull-up around the elbow and range beyond the arc. Expect his productivity to help drive the Falcons this winter.
