ATLANTA, Georgia — Maynard Jackson High School played host to their Fall League presented by Show-and-Tell. This was the first weekend of a series of five dates this fall to provide quality competition in these weeks leading up to the official start of the GHSA season. Here is a first look at the players who stood above the rest last Saturday.

Giaunni Rogers – St. Francis – 2027

The 5-foot-9 combo guard recently gave her verbal commitment to stay in the city and play for Coach Karen Blair and Georgia Tech. Rogers is a 4-star caliber prospect who earned recruiting attention from across the country. She has previously been noted for her shooting ability, but she was running the point for the Knights last weekend. She looked comfortable creating plays at the top of the key, and her jump shot looks smooth like it always has. The Lady Knights look to be one of the favorites in Class A Division I behind the talent of Rogers.

Asiah Thompson – Kell High School – 2027

Thompson is one of the more polished guards we have evaluated this year on the girls’ basketball side. She gave her verbal commitment to Joe Tartamella and the Red Storm of St. John’s this summer. The 5-foot-10 prospect showed terrific footwork coming off screens last weekend. Her jumper has always been a signature part of her game. But she is proving that she can be equally effective as a creator in the midrange and finishing at the rim this fall. Her skill set combined with her blossoming athleticism is a big reason why Thompson is headed to Queens, New York after this season. The Lady Longhorns should once again be a favorite, now in Class 6A, behind the leadership of Thompson.

Avantey Gilreath – Columbia High School – 2028

Gilreath is on the verge of becoming a prospect who will earn national recruiting attention this season. The 6-foot-4 post player showed the ability to finish with either hand around the bucket in the Jaguars’ two games on Saturday. Her footwork, balance, and willingness to run the floor immediately caught our attention. She posted up with angles to score and there was not much that opponents could do to slow her down. She gives Columbia the go-to presence in the middle that will make them contenders in Class 3A this season.

Paris Wilson – McEachern High School – 2029

Wilson will make her case as one of the top players in the state regardless of age this season. She is a terrifically talented point guard who has quickness, instinct, and body control that cannot be taught. She has a competitive streak that shines through each time she steps on the court. She was a contributor for the Lady Indians as a freshman, but with a year of experience behind her, she is poised to be a star this season.

Alana DeWitt – Marietta High School – 2029

The Lady Blue Devils did not have their full roster to compete on Saturday, but that gave DeWitt the chance to play a lead role. The 5-foot-11 wing-forward is generally known for her all-around play. She hits open shots and makes complementary plays that often help highlight her teammates. On Saturday she had the ball in her hands and acted as the lead playmaker. We were impressed with her confidence in the open court and her soft touch when shooting off the move. Her size and versatility will make her a very recruitable prospect in years to come.
