MARIETTA, Ga. — It’s dreadfully hot still, but it’s spiritually fall in the Atlanta area now that Southern Hoops Report and On The Radar have tipped off their pre-season events. 

Several programs from the area got the chance to get some scrimmages in front of media and college coaches. 

Here are five players who stood out from the afternoon’s worth of action. 

Austin Leonard - Grayson - 2029

Leonard continues to impress. It looks like he’s added to his frame physically since the last time I saw him. His superpower is his maturity on the floor. Leonard limits mistakes by keeping the game simple. Rather than swinging for home run plays, he makes the one that gives his team the best opportunity to be successful whether it's taking an open, on-balance shot or making the extra pass. His impact is felt in just about every facet of the game. Leonard looks ready to continue to make a name for himself on a national scale this winter. 

Anthony Moreno - Kell - 2030

After having seen Moreno play in the 14U division throughout the spring and summer, it looks like his transition to high school will be seamless. Against a talented South Gwinnett team, Moreno showed off a lot of what our staff liked out of him earlier in the year. It’s his offensive skillset at the PG spot that makes him a fun player to watch. He creates gravity with his ability to get a bucket from all three levels. He’s crafty on drives, and he can pull from deep at any time. Moreno uses that and nifty vision to create plenty of open looks for his teammates. There’ll still be some adjusting to this level for him throughout the winter, but he looks like he’s in a good spot to make an immediate impact for the Longhorns. 

Devaughn Bogany - South Gwinnett - 2029 

Bogany was a bright spot for the Comets all afternoon. He provided much-needed shooting consistency for them. Bogany showed that he can create for himself off the bounce, or he can be a catch-and-shoot guy. He looks like he’ll be able to handle both guard spots when South Gwinnett needs him too throughout the season. His perimeter versatility could be the catalyst for a breakout season for him. 

Anthony Moon - Pebblebrook - 2027

Not too dissimilar from recent Falcons stars, Moon’s versatility was huge for them on Saturday. He was able to play inside and out on both ends. His ability to guard the perimeter was a major impact, as he drew some tough matchups out there. Moon kept the Falcons within striking distance against Parkview—a game they won via a buzzer-beater—with his scoring consistency at the rim. He also mixed in a 3-pointer and some nice mid-range shots. 

Nganga Kinyanjui - North Cobb - 2027

It’s a new era over at North Cobb. Coach Spivey has a team that could make his first season at the helm a successful one. Kinyanjui has been one of the more underappreciated guards and shooters in the state. He had a great year at Kell last season and looks to take another step forward at his new school. He hit some tough shots against Grayson on Sunday. That’s what he can do. His range is deep, and his pull-up game is outstanding. He’s the kind of player you want taking a shot at the end of a close game.
