OTR Hoops – Tip-Off Classic Live Recaps – November 18, 2023
NORCROSS, Georgia, – On the Radar Hoops is proud to present the annual Tip-Off Classic hosted at Norcross High School. We will cover the seven games on the docket today, which will showcase some of the top talent in the state of Georgia this year. Shiloh (74) vs. Norcross (65)
The Generals jumped out to a big first quarter lead and held off a late Norcross surge to hold on to a win the event’s nightcap. Shiloh was led in scoring by 2025 forward Tylis Jordan (28 points) and Jullien Cole (24 points). The Blue Devils were led by point guard T. Ogukwu (19 points) and Casey Williams (15 points).
Grayson (78) vs. Woodward Academy (66)
The Rams were never threatened in this one. The hit the locker room at halftime with a 42-22 lead. Woodward was able to string together a 21-point 4th quarter to end on a high note. Gicarri Harris (Purdue commit) led all scorers with 23 points, which included 12 in the first quarter. Junior post, Amir Taylor, added 15 points for coach Geoffrey Pierce’s squad. Despite the loss, there is plenty to be optimistic about with the Eagles. Wing Zac Foster and Brandon Peters both scored a high 19 points on Saturday evening. Freshman guard Jarvis Hayes flashed talent in the second half as well.
Berkmar (64) vs. Central Gwinnett (46)
Berkmar found a balanced scoring attack with four players in double digits. Junior 6-foot-11 post Mekhi Ragland led the way with 19 points. While a host of perimeter players added in the necessary perimeter scoring for the win. Kamal Green (12 points), Mike White (11 points), and Eddie Cook III (10 points) all gave coach Greg Phillips plenty to be optimistic about after this one. Barker Donaldson and Donte Golden each scored 14 points for the Black Knights in the loss.
4:00pm Pace Academy (67) vs. Langston Hughes (54)
Pace Academy corralled this game very early on and would not let Langston Hughes within striking distance after halftime. Chandler Bing led the way with 18 points and LJ Moore added 15 in the win. Langston Hughes stats were not available at the time of publishing.
2:00pm Sandy Creek (57) vs. Mount Vernon (54)
Mount Vernon held a lead for almost 3/4 of this game. Then Sandy Creek went on a 9-0 run early in the fourth quarter to take its first lead of the game. Sandy Creek held possession in the game’s final moments with the score tied at 54. Jared White hit a three off a diagonal pass with two seconds left on the clock to seal the win for the Patriots. Guard Amari Brown led all scorers with 19 points in the win. Xavier Shegog led the Men of Valor with 17 points.
12:30pm Walnut Grove (66) vs. Pebblebrook (54)
Walnut Grove ran out to a 42-17 first half lead and that was enough for the Indians to hang on for the win. Marcus Smith II finished with 19 points while Chase Roux added 16 in the win. Pebblebrook guard Caleb Thomas pumped in a game high 22 points for the Falcons. Arthur Williams added 14 in the second game of teh day.
11:00am Parkview (70) vs. Lanier (63)
The Panthers took the lead heading into the locker room at half time and never looked back. They had three players in double digits, Chaz Holmes (14), Justin LaRose (14), and Troy Stiggers (14). The Longhorns were led in scoring by Amari Morgan with 27 points. Senior point guard Tahai Morgan added 15 in today’s opener.
