OTR Summer Jam – Sunday Standouts Part 1 – May 23, 2023

On The Radar returned to home base this weekend for Summer Jam and gathered some of the top programs in the state. Big name prospects like Ace Bailey, Braedan Lue, and Gicarri Harris squared off making for some entertaining highlights and down to the wire finishes. These were a couple of my standouts from the 17u division on Sunday.

2024 G Jamichael Davis – AOT

To put it simply, Jamichael Davis put on a show this weekend at Next Play 360. The pair of Rutgers commits were both rolling in their last game vs Team Huncho, combining for 55 points, 29 belonging to Davis. He was dissecting one defense after another, getting to the cup or to his mid-range game which is nearly automatic. Davis also showcased his bounce with a couple of one-hand slams. This AOT squad is must-see basketball for Rutgers basketball fans.

2024 G Gicarri Harris – Atlanta Celtics

While Harris is usually the most talented on the floor, he’s very unselfish and likes to get his teammates going early but when they need Gicarri to step up, he flips the switch. That’s exactly what we saw on Sunday when Harris single-handedly brought the Celtics back from down 15 to tie the game late. Harris hit a number of contested three-pointers and threw down a few dunks in the halfcourt too. This weekend, Harris reminded us why he’s one of the top guards in the southeast.

2024 G Malique Johnson – Team Huncho

Malique Johnson suited up for Team Huncho this weekend and asserted himself nicely right off the bat. His jumper was falling, both off the dribble and the catch. The energy and toughness were on display too, several hustle plays that I witnessed. Johnson’s fast-paced style fits well with that of Huncho and with time, I think he and Braedan Lue will partner beautifully in pick and roll looks.

2024 W Allen Stoddard – Team Forrest

Allen Stoddard has been putting together an excellent spring campaign, labeled a standout at multiple OTR events this season. Stoddard has a ton of long-term potential I believe, a 6’6 wing that’s coordinated, athletic, and has a solid foundation of offensive skills. Right now, he’s a great perimeter and defender and provides great rebounding from the wing. As Stoddard adds aspects of shot creation and scoring ability to his game, I think he’ll develop into a two-way threat at the next level.

2024 G Will Kuimjian – Atlanta Timberwolves White

Kuimjian had another solid showing this weekend and he’s been steadily upping stock this spring. While Luke Flynn has missed a couple of weekends with minor injuries, Kuimjian has taken the reigns and ran the show with little drop-off. He has a great feel for the game, poised while handling the rock and adept at reading defenses. The defense left him open a few times too many on Sunday as he knocked down a handful of trey-balls on way to 17 points in a win to end the weekend. Kuimjian could likely be set for a breakout year at Mt. Bethel.
