MONTVERDE, Fla. — After two days courtside at the Montverde Academy invitational tournament we've got a good view of the talent on the court. Below you’ll find a feature on one stand out from each of the eight teams in attendance. In addition, a footnote with other standouts follows each post team.

Josiah Giliard - Dr. Phillips - 2028

Dr. Phillips had a rough outing going 0-2 during the first two days of the Montverde invitational but it allowed sophomore guard Josiah Gilliard to showcase his playmaking abilities. The 6-foot guard is quick and shifty in space. His speed and handle allow him to get deep paint touches. He has the craft to finish against bigger defenders. Gillard is adept at hitting mid range and long range shots off the dribble. He was more of a scorer of the two day stretch and still managed to dime his teammates six times a game.

Other Dr. Phillips standouts: 2027 Caleb Smith, 2028 CJ Smith, 2026 Malaki Baker

Makiah Gray - Bethel Academy - 2027

Kye Gray was in the right place time after time. The 6’1 combo guard played on and off ball alongside another talented guard Devin Toatley. He showcased an ability to score on all three levels as he poured in mid range pull up jumpers and finished through contact at the rim. Off the ball he used his speed to make plays on both sides of the floor. He’ll get deflections on one end while serving as a cutter on the other. He’s had a rough three point shooting turn out going 1-4 being the line in the first two games.

Other Bethel Academy standouts: 2026 Devin Toatley, 2027 Uzziah Morton, 2027 Joseph McCarthy, 2027 Cameron Prosper

Derek Daniels - Montverde - 2027

Derek Daniels is only listed at 6’7 but thanks to a powerful frame he plays much bigger. He’s an incredibly physical forward who knows how to use his strength to create leverage around the block. Daniels a good vertical athlete who dunked just about every one of his 16 shot attempts over two games. He’s a walking double-double during the tournament, averaging 15.5 ppg and 10 rpg. His frame allows him to carve out space on the offensive glass. He has good hands, a solid motor, and the nastiness you want from an undersized four. He's adept at finishing plays out of pick and rolls.

Other Montverde standouts: 2026 Jojo Philon, 2026 Dhani Miller, 2027 Javion Tyndale, 2027 O’Neal Delancey

Josiah Rose - Faith Family - 2028

Josiah Rose may have had the best game of the tournament after dropping 31 points on DME Academy. The 6’3 2028 guard shot the cover off the ball from mid range and went 3-6 beyond the arc. He’s a powerful athlete that constantly attacks downhill while producing enough force to finish through contact. He’s more of a scoring guard than playmaker for others with Faith Family. Rose keeps himself engaged in the game even if the ball isn’t in his hands. This game showcases his ability to score as a shooter/scorer off movement.

Other Faith Family standouts: 2026 Gavin Placide, 2026 Gallagher Placide, 2027 Josiah Jones

Deandre Harvey - The Rock School - 2026

Deandre Harvey was one of the most consistent offensive players during the MAIT. Harvey scored in every aspect of the offensive games but does his best work getting downhill. He’s a high-level athlete with the speed, a quick first step, and vertical to compete with the likes of Montverde Academy. Harvey has the patience to read the defense before making his moves based. He’s a promising offensive talent with touch on floaters, layups, and his shot. He competes on the defensive end while having a nose for jumping passing lanes.

Other Rock School standouts: 2026 Joseph Hartman, 2026 Jacob Pleyer, 2029 Zaire Colbert

Isaac Jacobs - Northside Christian - 2026

At 6-foot-6, Jacobs stands as a versatile wing forward in today’s game. He has the strength and physicality to play in the paint. Jacobs creates contact on drives and finishes, and it’s led to him getting to the free throw line. He’s a streaky shooter at best but wastes no time letting open threes fly. Jacobs is a confident scorer who can create his own shot from multiple spots on court while favoring his left side. His size allows him to be a versatile defender against smaller posts and perimeter players.

Standouts: 2026 CJ Hearns, 2026 Jordan Bender, 2027 Elijah Ahlers

Quincy Douby Jr - Rivera Prep - 2027

Quincy Douby Jr. had ups and downs during the MAIT but a 32 point outburst showcases all the reason he’s a top 100 player in the class of 2027. He’s a long, athletic combo guard with a pure jumper. Douby shoots the ball really well from distance shooting 7 for 15 in the process. Douby has good shot preparation and mechanics. He’s a good off the dribble shooter in the midrange with almost textbook footwork. Douby is a solid playmaker with the vision to make the right pass when needed. He’s a solid defender with the ability to pickpocket ball handlers and interfere with passing windows. Despite being slender, he’s a helpful rebounder at the guard position.

Other standouts: 2026 Mason Fuentes, 2027 Johnathan Watts, 2027 Anton Safin, 2028 Laron Mack Jr.

Yohane Kabongo - DME - 2027

Yohane Kabongo is becoming one of the best run and jump bigs in Florida. He plays with high energy on both ends of the floor. Kabongo is more of a play finisher at this point in his career, and it’s consistent. He’s a lob threat, rolls hard to the basket, and rebounds well for his lean 6-foot-9 physique.

Other DME standouts: 2026 Nathan Kirk, 2027 Maddox Harden, 2027 Ryan Hampton
