OTR Hoops News: 2027 4-Star Power Forward Commits to Auburn

Top 150 nationally ranked recruit coming off an impressive summer on the Nike EYBL circuit commits to Steven Pearl and the Auburn Tigers

Davis Cochran, A 6-foot-9 power forward from Brentwood High School in the greater Nashville area, has committed to Auburn University.

Cochran chose the Tigers over notable schools such as Cincinnati, Clemson, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt, where he made official visits to each of his finalists this fall. He was also being recruited by Belmont, Boston College, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Washington, among others.

Cochran came into the spring not ranked by several recruiting services but following an impressive summer playing with Bradley Beal Elite on the Nike EYBL circuit, he has become a nationally known player. He is ranked No. 123 overall in the class of 2027, as well as the No. 24 power forward and the No. 2-ranked player in the state of Tennessee, according to 247Sports.

Cochran becomes the second commit for Steven Pearl and the Auburn Tigers in the upcoming recruiting cycle as he joins four-star point guard Jason Gardner Jr., who committed to the Tigers last month.

During the Grassroots season, Cochran averaged just 10 points and 8 rebounds per game, where he played a limited role with Bradley Beal Elite.

During his sophomore season, Cochran averaged 18.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.1 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game for the Bruins, who finished with a 21-7 record, with their season coming to an end in the District Quarterfinal.

Scouting Report on Davis Cochran: Cochran operates with a high motor and is trying to make an impact every time he steps onto the floor. He runs the floor exceptionally well for his size, especially when transition opportunities allow him. Cochran often at times beats bigger players down the floor when he can attack with purpose, finishing at the front of the rim and knocking down mid-range shots off the bounce on the offensive end. He displays a high IQ, as he doesn’t force bad shots or make a bad pass often in the half-court. On the defensive end, his length and versatility allow him to contest shots on the perimeter as well as having the ability to block shots at the rim. Cochran is a solid rim protector who understands great body positioning and limits the opposition from getting second-chance scoring opportunities. Overall, Cochran is projected to be a high-level anchor on both ends of the floor who can provide impactful minutes right away at the next level. With consistency in building confidence in a jump shot, Cochran could carve himself into a multi-year contributor when he gets to Auburn.
