Mike White and the University of Georgia have landed another top-ranked recruit for their position in the upcoming recruiting class on Sunday.
Four-star shooting guard Jarvis Hayes Jr. out of Woodward Academy in Atlanta, Georgia, becomes the second commit for Coach White and the Bulldogs for the upcoming recruiting class, announcing his commitment after completing his official visit last month. Hayes joins North Oconee four-star shooting guard Justin Wise, who announced his commitment to the Bulldogs back in August.
Hayes chose the Bulldogs over Florida State, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, among several others. Before trimming his list of schools down to four, Hayes was hearing from Auburn, Cincinnati, Clemson, Miami, Missouri, Ole Miss, Oregon, Wake Forest, and Xavier.
Hayes is the No. 38 overall-ranked prospect, the No. 1 shooting guard, and the No. 5 ranked player in the state of Georgia in the class of 2027, according to 247Sports.
Hayes does have some basketball bloodlines at the University of Georgia, where his father (Jarvis Sr.) is currently an assistant coach on Mike White’s staff, a position he has held since 2026 after serving as an assistant coach at Morehouse (2018-2019) and Georgia State (2019-2026).
Jarvis Sr. also finished his collegiate career playing for the Bulldogs from 2001 to 2003, after playing his freshman season at Western Carolina (1999-2000). He became the first Bulldog player to be named to the All-SEC First Team during his sophomore and junior seasons since Dominique Wilkins in 1981 and 1982. Jarvis Sr. also went on to play eight years in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Washington Wizards (2003-2007), Detroit Pistons (2007-2008), and finished his NBA career (2008-2010).
During his junior season at Woodward Academy, Hayes Jr. averaged 17.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.2 steals per game, and he led the War Eagles to a 25-7 record and reached the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Class AAAAA State Championship Game before they came up short of a title to Alexander High School.
During the Grassroots season, Hayes Jr. played for Atlanta Xpress on the Under Armour circuit, where he averaged 16.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.
Scouting Report on Jarvis Hayes Jr.: Hayes has a great understanding of pace and timing when it comes to knowing when to speed up a possession or when to slow things down on the offensive end. Standing at 6-foot-5, Hayes has a great handle and can operate on the perimeter, attack downhill, or get his teammates involved from the lead guard position. He has a strong ability when it comes to changing speeds and direction, as his high IQ continues to improve with his age and maturity. On the defensive end, his length and versatility allow him to guard multiple positions where he can contest shots at the rim without fouling. His on-the-ball defense is fundamentally sound, and he can use his athleticism to his advantage, where he can generate steals and turning them into scores on the offensive end. Overall, he is projected to be a high-major guard who has the shot-making and size combination to be an elite next-level prospect. His potential will continue to grow as he is expected to be a multi-year player with the Bulldogs.
