Game Preview: Duluth vs. Langston Hughes

Since taking over at Duluth High School, coach Eddie Hood has led the Wildcats to back to back winning seasons a state tournament appearance. The revival in talent at Joe Marelle Gymnasium is notable in region 7-AAAAAA, which is regularly one of the state’s most competitive. Although Hood graduated 4-star forward Eric Hamilton last season, he does return a roster full of college prospects.

The Wildcats will count on the play of Anthony Showell, a class of 2016 point guard. The 6-foot prospect has shown consistent improvement over the past 12 months and most recently at the Georgia Challenge in September. He has garnered interest from college programs such as Gardner Webb and other schools regionally. Showell will joined by an athletic front line that includes class 2016 posts AJ Cheeseman and Obinna Ofodile. Both 6-6 interior players have the ability to patrol the lane and clean the glass.

The Wildcats will match-up against another class AAAAAA team in Langston Hughes coached by Rory Welsh. The Panthers have a roster that features much underclassmen talent. Class of 2017 point guard Khalil Cuffee is a player that we noted from the Georgia Challenge as a promising prospect. We have had multiple viewings of 6-6 wing forward Chuma Okeke, the latest at the John Lucas Invitational in Louisville, Ky. His athleticism and ability to crash the glass will give opponents trouble on many nights. He is joined by Derrick Cook who is a 6-4 wing in the class of 2017 as well. We tabbed Cook as a notable new name at the Georgia Challenge as well in September.
