OTR Hoops – Montverde Academy Invitational Live Recaps – January 25, 2024

MONTVERDE, Fla.– The 21st Annual Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament tipped off Thursday afternoon. We will cover all four games here on Day 1, which features eight teams representing four states. Follow @RossVDG14 on X/Twitter for updates and analysis throughout the day.

1:00 p.m.- Brewster Academy (NH) 86, Calvary Christian Academy (FL) 65

The Bobcats came into Thursday ranked No. 10 in the SportsCenter Next Top 25 Rankings and had a big fourth quarter to run away with the 21-point win over Calvary Christian Academy. Brewster Academy was led by 6-7 junior wing Dwayne Aristode finishing with a game-high 21 points, on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. 6-1 senior guard DJ Shine added 15 points, including going 4-of-5 from beyond the arc for the Bobcats in the win. The Eagles were led by 5-9 freshman guard Cayden Daughtry finishing with 20 points. 6-8 sophomore guard Collin Paul added 17 points of his own in the losing effort.

3:00 p.m.- Prolific Prep (CA) 76, Riviera Prep (FL) 74

In the second game of the Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament, The Prolific Prep Crew survived despite a furious rally from the reigning Florida Class 3A Champion Riviera Prep Bulldogs, 76-74 in overtime. The Crew were led by 6-6 junior guard Winters Grady finishing with a game-high 23 points. 6-8 junior wing AJ Dybantsa added 18 points of his own in the win, while 6-8 sophomore small forward Tyran Stokes added 14. For the Bulldogs, 6-4 junior wing Dante Allen finished with a team-high 23 points while 6-1 freshman guard Myles Fuentes added 21 of his own.

5:00 p.m.- Oak Ridge (FL) 78, The Rock School (FL) 64

The Oak Ridge Pioneers led wire-to-wire and were in complete control from the opening tip. The Pioneers took a 26-10 lead after the first eight minutes and did not look back. Oak Ridge was led by 6-6 senior shooting guard and Georgia Southern commit Jordan Tillery finishing with a team-high 19 points. 6-0 junior guard Jalen Reece added 17 points of his own for the Pioneers. The Lions got key contributions from 6-2 junior guard Evan Sterck who was one of four players in double figures finishing with 16 points. Virginia Tech signee Ryan Jones Jr. finished with 15, while 6-6 junior forward Clarence Massamba added 13 points of his own.

7:00 p.m.- Montverde Academy (FL) 127, Imani Christian (PA) 40

The No. 1 ranked Montverde Academy Eagles rout Imani Christian, who came in from Pittsburgh from the opening tip. The Eagles’ 87-point win is their largest win of the season as they improve to 22-0 on the year. The Eagles were led by 6-5 senior forward Lucas Lima finishing with a game-high 21 points with all of them coming in the second half. Indiana signee Liam McNeeley finished with 18 points, Derik Queen added 16 and Georgia signee Asa Newell with 15. Imani Christian was led by 6-0 senior guard Nathan Brazil with 16 points, as he was the lone member in double figures for the visiting Saints.
