PLAYERS FEATURED
We Next Elite (WNE) is one of the newer grassroots programs in North Carolina, but in just a few years the organization has quickly established a reputation for development, opportunity, and strong culture.
Founded in 2021, We Next Elite was created to provide opportunities for players who may not always receive the traditional AAU exposure. With a focus on development and brotherhood, the program continues to grow while preparing athletes both on and off the court.
The program is led by Coach Zane, alongside Mrs. Sasha and the Minkins family, with early support from the BCA Cavs (now Carolina Christian University) and sponsorship from Calvary Kids Academy and former NBA player KJ McDaniels, who was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 32nd pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.
Program Mission
From the beginning, We Next Elite was built with a purpose beyond just playing games. The program was designed to give athletes an opportunity to experience AAU basketball at a high level even if they might not normally have access to it.
Through elite-level training, competitive scheduling, and a strong emphasis on basketball IQ, WNE aims to help players grow both as athletes and as individuals. The program also focuses on confidence building, leadership, and brotherhood among teammates.
That approach has already produced results. WNE players have gone on to make school teams, win state championships, record career-high seasons, and continue their careers at the collegiate level.
Greensboro Roots
Based in Greensboro, North Carolina, We Next Elite primarily represents the Triad area, while also drawing players from neighboring regions including Virginia (434 area).
The program’s reach continues to grow as more players seek out WNE’s development-focused environment and competitive platform.
Alumni Success
Despite being a young program, WNE has already helped multiple players move on to the next level.
Notable alumni include:
Nasir Faucett (2022) – Catawba College
Michael Jordan (2023) – Wingate University
Lamont Sewell (2023) – Louisburg College
Jahlil Green (2023) – Edward Waters University
Zyquire McGee (2024) – Shaw University
Cynsere Carver (2025) – Mid-America Christian University
The program has also seen success outside traditional basketball paths, with Malachi Jeffers (2022) pursuing a professional wrestling career with WWE (RAW).
Culture and Philosophy
The culture within We Next Elite is built around a simple but powerful motto:
“We > Me.”
The program emphasizes teamwork, accountability, and the concept of a “chosen brotherhood.” Players are encouraged to support one another, grow together, and push each other to improve both as athletes and as young men.
WNE also places strong importance on preparing players for life beyond basketball by helping them better understand and navigate the world around them while maintaining the standards of a student-athlete.
First Year on the OTR Circuit
The 2026 season marks We Next Elite’s first year competing on the OTR Circuit, and the program is eager to embrace the opportunity.
With competitive teams and a development-first approach, WNE is looking forward to testing itself against strong competition while gaining the full experience that the OTR platform offers.
As the program continues to grow, We Next Elite remains focused on its mission which is creating opportunities, developing players, and building a lasting culture that extends far beyond the basketball court.
