OTR Hoops: 2027 Prospects on the Rise in Florida (Part 1)

We have reached the midway point of the 2025-2026 high school basketball season across the state of Florida. Here are some of the top prospects trending upwards in this year’s junior class.

Aiden Bolden - Calvary Christian Academy (Fort Lauderdale) - 2027: Bolden has drawn a ton of national attention this season since reclassifying into the 2027 class. On offense, he has shown a ton of flashes where he can score in a variety of ways as well as play make for his teammates. Standing at 6-foot-7, Bolden has elite court vision where he is a strong passer on the move and can find teammates on the move as well as from the perimeter. On defense, he is a matchup nightmare with his size and frame, where he can guard multiple positions and use his athleticism to his advantage, being a high-level rebounder. He currently has offers from California, Missouri, and Jacksonville, among others.

Quincy Douby Jr - Riviera Prep - 2027:  The 6-foot-5 shooting guard is a true tone setter for his team on the offensive end, where he can score at the rim as well as hurt you on the perimeter. His ability to change speed as well as create separation has shown a ton of growth from last season, when playing at Miami Southridge, to this season. His versatility and ability to create turnovers on the defensive end have also been a huge spark for his team this season. Douby holds offers from Duquesne, Florida International, Florida State, Rutgers, Wake Forest, and several others.

Ryan Gornto - Providence School - 2027: Gornto is a gifted scorer on the offensive end when given the right amount of space and distance. His confidence and maturity when he has the basketball in his hands are what separate him from the rest of the guards in the area. On defense, he is a pest when it comes to guarding the ball as well as applying consistent pressure in the passing lanes, forcing opposing guards to make a difficult decision. Gornto is hearing from several mid-major programs, but don’t be surprised if Power 4 offers start rolling his way before his junior season comes to an end. Gornto could lead Providence School to a possible deep postseason run this season.

Bryce Hoffert - Windermere - 2027: The 6-foot-6 small forward has one of the cleanest shooting strokes you will find in the state. His release is lightning quick when it comes to playing off the catch, as he doesn’t need a ton of time to connect from behind the arc. On the defensive end, he is quick for his size as well as versatile, where he can guard positions 1 through 4 and is a high-level rebounder for his size. Keep an eye on Hoffert as his development continues to rise, where he could draw attention from several college coaches in the near future.

Lunden Knights - Chaminade-Madonna - 2027: Knights is a potent offensive threat where he can score on all three levels, whether it’s getting to his spots off the bounce or being effective off the catch. His high-IQ allows him to play multiple positions on both ends of the floor, where his athleticism is vastly improving. Knights is a two-way guard who impacts winning in a variety of ways, where he increased his scoring average by nearly 15 points per game from his sophomore season to this season.

Miguel Orbe - Miami Country Day - 2027: The 6-foot-3 combo guard has vastly improved as a lead guard and decision maker on the offensive end. Orbe can also play off the ball and move exceptionally well in the open court, where he gets to his spots where he can knock down rhythm shots without a ton of separation. On defense, he plays with a ton of length and versatility, where often at times can guard multiple positions. His combination skillset of three-level scoring, versatile defending, and shot creating is what separates him from other guards in the class. His continued growth will draw a lot of attention from college coaches as we get towards the start of the Grassroots season.

Griffin Starks - Southeastern Preparatory Academy - 2027: Starks has a strong frame and has the handles of a guard, where his versatility continues to speak high volumes on both ends of the floor. On offense, his explosiveness is at its best when it comes to his ability to finish above the rim, whether it’s off the bounce or on put-back dunks. As his defensive mechanics continue to improve, he could be a two-way force before his high school career comes to an end. The Kentucky native is hearing from Florida State, Ohio, Ohio State, Penn State, West Virginia, and several others.
