OTR Hoops: Elite 32 Saturday 15U Top Performers

The stars of future live periods took over Discovery High School for On The Radar’s Elite 32. Hare are some names that stood out on Saturday:

Kyle Sandy

Mack Hulihan - HoopGrind OTR (Pictured) - 2030
The incoming freshman put on a show with his elite shot making ability from beyond the arc. Mack drilled seven threes in a 67-30 win over TWU Elite OTR. Hulihan’s play from the corners was impressive. He netted three triples from the money spot but also created offense off the dribble, attacking baseline and hitting shooters in the corners with drift passes out of bounds.  Mack read the defense as a facilitator and when he noticed missing block outs, he crept onto the offensive glass for putbacks. Defensively, Hulihan converted a pair of steals into hoops. Mack posted 29 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in a sterling effort.

Evan Edwards - HoopGrind OTR - 2029
Blessed with a strong frame equipped with wide shoulders and plenty of muscle, Evan displayed a versatile game in a win against TWU Elite OTR. Edwards was effective attacking from the high post on drives. He jump stopped to play off two feet in traffic. Evan rebounds the ball well both offensively and defensively. He’s got the mobility and ball skills to push in transition coast-to-coast. Edwards finishes with both hands and does so while playing above the rim. He recorded 11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks in a blowout win.

Damon Flint - Everything Earned Elite OTR - 2029
Damon catches your eye immediately. The wired-to-score guard is an impressive athlete who plays full tilt at all times. Flint can be seen attacking 100 miles per hour upon clearing rebounds. With his advanced body control, he is able to euro step past defenders to explode to the rim. Damon implements a hesitation crossover, freezing the ball in his hand to shake defenders. Flint is extremely comfortable in isolation settings. When he gets downhill, he can finish with either hand. His jump shot is strengthening, adding in one-dribble pull-ups to keep the defense honest. Flint recorded 16 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals against Team EYA. Damon has terrific gifts that should continue to develop as he gets more and more reps. He has legit upside.

Kelstin Gaines - Everything Earned Elite OTR - 2029
Keep tabs on Kelstin. With his size, wiry strength and two-way prowess, Gaines feels like a stock-rising prospect. Kelstin shoots the three exceptionally well. He’s tough to cover with the height he gets on his shot, giving him accuracy and deep range. Not only does he hit shots, but he’s a rangy defender who can switch to guard multiple positions. Against Team EYA, Gaines sunk three three-pointers and a mid-range jumper to finish with 11 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks. His impact is felt on both ends of the floor.

Ahmad Carver - Team EYA - 2029
Carver is the epitome of a garbage guy. Ahmad does the dirty work to perfection, outworking the opposition on the glass for putbacks. The hard-working post is quick off the floor to snag boards, his activity leading to second chances. Against NGU he scored four times on putbacks, finishing with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block. Against Everything Earned Elite OTR, Carver chipped in 8 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal, once again finding buckets off the backboard and serving as a roll man out of high ball screens.

Joachim Lango - NGU OTR - 2029
JoJo displayed workhorse qualities as he anchored NGU against Team EYA. Lango went for 11 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks in a low scoring 29-24 loss. Joachim was a load inside. His offensive arsenal with his back to the basket was impressive. Lango scored on back downs, hook shots and turnaround jumpers. He had counter moves featuring up-and-unders as he primarily looked to score over his left shoulder. Lango powered through fouls to convert And-1s. He also impressed defensively, rotating over to swat away shots. Joachim’s a blossoming big worth noting moving forward.

Kamari Johnson - Carolina Premier Upstate White - 2029
A slashing lead guard, Kamari hit big shots down the stretch to beat On Go Elite. Johnson was at his best weaving through the defense for tough lay-ins requiring English. The shifty playmaker tallied 15 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal in a 49-45 win before following up with 11 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals vs. XLXB Royals. Adding range to his jump shot will help diversify his attack, but he did hit a pull-up in Game 2. Johnson’s liable to strike at any time when the ball is in his hands.

King Moore - XLXB Royals - 2029
I loved how hard King played in a blow out win. Moore double-doubled with 25 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Only around 6-foot-2, Moore plays with tremendous toughness. The high motor forward is a ball magnet with how he attacks rebounds. King’s athleticism is a major boon. He has a strong frame which features a quick first step and bouncy leaping ability. He is a menace on the offensive glass with his relentlessness. Moore scored on five putbacks in a 68-36 win. He rim runs very well and is seemingly always at the foul line, shooting 5-9 against Carolina Premier Upstate White.

Dax Gill - XLXB Royals - 2029
The high IQ swingman cut up the defense on Saturday with his anticipation of plays. Right upon the catch he immediately knew where he wanted to go with the ball. Gill made quick touch passes to divers for easy layups. He used his length to rack up steals in the press and help defend around the rim in the half court. When he looked to score, Gill was lethal from the corners with his three-point shot. Dax totaled 15 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 1 block in a 68-36 win.
